We are together: KBSU supported the all-Russian blood donation campaign
Student activists from the Dobro.Center Social Development Center at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov opened the Blood and Bone Marrow Donation Promotion Week. The «#WEARETOGETHER | Giving Life» campaign is taking place simultaneously in dozens of regions across the country, with universities serving as the main venues. Over the course of five days, young people aged 18 to 35 can not only donate blood but also join the Federal Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
«This is a time when we talk about the most precious thing—life—and how simple it is sometimes to be a miracle for someone. At KBSU, the number of people willing to help patients is growing every year. Our students always respond to doctors’ requests and are ready to help,» notes Damir Khabalov, Director of the Dobro.Center at KBSU.
Today, hundreds of patients are waiting for their chance at medical care in medical institutions. Synthetic blood substitutes still don’t exist, so the biological reserve is replenished only from person to person. A single standard donation, divided into components, can support three recipients. For a healthy donor, the procedure is completely safe and even beneficial: it stimulates natural cell renewal and helps prevent cardiovascular disease. Anyone over 18 years of age, weighing at least 50 kg, and with no medical contraindications can become a donor. Blood can be donated at both stationary transfusion stations and mobile donor units.
Bone marrow donation is given special attention. Modern medicine has significantly simplified this process: in 80% of cases, stem cell collection is similar to blood donation. For patients with leukemia, an exact genetic match is a key factor in recovery. The main problem in Russia is the small size of the national registry. Joining it is simple: simply donate a few milliliters of blood for typing and provide your contact information. The anticipation of a match that can happen at any moment gives hope to thousands of people every day.
Participation in the campaign is convenient: donating blood and undergoing a medical examination counts as volunteer activity. KBSU students receive two additional days off. All information is available on the Dobro.rf portal, where you can track your donation history, find collection points, and accumulate bonuses. Integration with the Federal Medical and Biological Agency’s database has made the process as transparent and convenient as possible.
The campaign is being implemented by the Dobro.rf ecosystem with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Federal Medical and Biological Agency as part of the national project «Youth and Children.» Anyone can join the donor movement—just one step is enough, and for someone, it will be the beginning of a new life.
