Summer wellness: advice from KBSU expert Irina Tembotova
Summer is the time for vacations and vacations, when it is important to take care of your own well-being. The press service of KBSU is launching a series about summer wellness. In a series of materials we will talk about scientifically based programs and methods of spa medicine that are highly effective.
The expert will be the deputy director for medical treatment of the Dolinsk sanatorium, doctor of physical and rehabilitation medicine, obstetrician-gynecologist, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor of the department of general medical training and medical rehabilitation of KBSU Irina Tembotova. In the first part we will talk about directions that are especially relevant in the summer season.
The key point in summer wellness is an individual approach. Irina Tembotova highlights areas that cover the basic needs of most people during the warm season, but warns: there is no procedure or course that suits everyone. It is worth consulting with a doctor before traveling to a sanatorium or actively using therapeutic methods.
— The specialist will take into account chronic diseases and the person’s current condition, identify possible contraindications and select the optimal complex. In good health resorts, a spa doctor conducts such an assessment and draws up a personal program,” the expert emphasizes.
In her opinion, in the summer you need to rely on climatotherapy, movement and relaxation. The benefit will be maximum, and the approach will be safe, provided that the route is drawn up by a specialist.
Tembotova considers air baths, dosed exposure to the sun and exposure to the marine climate, water and algae to be the most effective in climatotherapy. Hydrotherapy and aquakinesiotherapy include swimming, water aerobics and contrast showers. They tone, improve blood circulation, relieve muscle tension and help cool down in the heat, notes Irina Amedovna.
The expert includes magnetic therapy, which improves microcirculation and has an anti-inflammatory effect, as well as laser therapy, which stimulates tissue regeneration, as physiotherapy with proven effectiveness. The procedures are often included in rehabilitation after injuries or for chronic back and joint pain. The expert recommends sticking to basic activities in sanatoriums to reduce risks:
— A universal rule for tourists is to stick to food in sanatoriums. In places from the register of recreation and wellness organizations, it is balanced and lays the foundation for health, which works in conjunction with any methods.
Another piece of advice for holidaymakers: introduce regular moderate physical activity into your daily routine; walking has a particularly beneficial effect on the body. Thus, exercises on a health path train the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, help control weight and directly reduce the level of cortisol in the blood. Aerotherapy also has a wide range of beneficial properties, but for some diseases, intense sunbathing or too active exercise during the peak heat may be contraindicated.
It is important to remember that during the summer season many people experience stress due to the heat and the change in the rhythm of life. In this case, relaxation and psycho-emotional practices are used for mental relief. These include yoga and meditation; in resort conditions, exercises help normalize sleep, reduce anxiety and improve overall well-being.
For summer wellness to be complete and produce results, a number of conditions are necessary: from the presence of medical indications and the development of an individual treatment plan to the patient’s conscious approach to his condition. This also includes the competent use of natural healing factors.
— A regular, systematic approach is needed with adherence to the schedule of procedures, dosing of loads and monitoring of the condition. In this process, both the role of the doctor who monitors the dynamics and the efforts of the tourist himself, who follows all the recommendations, are important. The full therapeutic effect of summer recovery is unlikely to be achieved if at least one of the components is missing,” summarizes Irina Tembotova.
