«Russia’s Strength Is in the Unity of Nations»: KBSU Discusses the Importance of Civic Responsibility in the Modern World

On the eve of one of the main national holidays, Russia Day, a roundtable discussion entitled «Russia’s Strength Is in the Unity of Nations» was held at the Scientific and Educational Library of Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. Students from various academic departments of the university – student organization activists and representatives from foreign countries – gathered to discuss what it means to be a citizen of their country today.

The discussion was organized by Zarema Bagova, Deputy Director for International Students. The roundtable ceremoniously opened with the playing of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation.

Aimani Gerieva, Director of the Scientific and Educational Library of KBSU, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. She emphasized that Russia Day occupies a special place in the cycle of holidays, linking the past and the present and emphasizing the importance of national statehood, unity, and the equality of rights and freedoms of peoples.

«In the Year of National Unity, this date takes on particular significance. Equality of citizens is enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. Today, I want to congratulate us all on Russia Day and wish you success in your studies. May your names become known and respected throughout the country,» noted Aimani Gerieva.

The discussion section was opened by David Kazbanov, a third-year student majoring in Jurisprudence at the Institute of Law, Economics, and Finance. In his report, «The Russian Citizen in the Age of Digitalization,» he aptly noted that in the age of digitalization, the most important thing is not to lose humanity.

The topic of statehood and rights was continued by his classmate, Alina Bocharova, who presented a report on state values ​​and sovereignty as a guarantee of the security of the Russian people, and Disana Bifova, a first-year student majoring in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Physical Education and Sports Education, who demonstrated that the unity of the peoples of Russia is the unshakable foundation of state sovereignty and stability.

The roundtable discussion placed particular emphasis on cultural codes and interpersonal connections. Fourth-year Sociology student Anastasia Semenova at the Social Sciences and Humanities Institute explored the power of unity in art and literature, while Olga Vilkovskaya (major in Russian Philology) spoke about friendship as a crucial factor in fostering a tolerant and constructive dialogue. Roxana Zhugova, a student at the Pedagogical College, traced the historical roots of friendship between peoples, while Erika Kertieva drew an important conclusion: «Russia’s strength lies in its people.»

Yana Shakhmametova, a student at the Higher School of International Education from Turkmenistan, resonated with the audience. She shared her personal experience of adaptation and spoke sincerely of her love for Russia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and her home university.

At the end of the roundtable, Zarema Bagova presented the active participants with certificates of appreciation from the university library. Summarizing the meeting, she remarked:

«Today we were able to explore the various facets of patriotism and civic responsibility, hear important thoughts, and outline ideas for future projects.
