Release date: 17.02.2023

The rating of media activity of universities for January 2023 has been published, which takes into account data on 229 higher education organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The rating is aimed at tracking the work of universities in the information field to attract interest in higher education, Russian science and its achievements.

According to the updated general ranking of universities M-Rate, during the month the number of subscribers in social networks (Telegram channel) of universities increased by more than 15 thousand people, and the number of reactions increased by 314 thousand. In the social network VKontakte, the number of comments increased by 8,000, and the number of likes by 128,000. Created 26 social media pages.

Anna Gureeva, Deputy Director of the Information Policy and Integrated Security Department of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, gave recommendations to universities participating in the media activity rating: “This year, the media rating formula has been updated taking into account changes in the metrics of some social networks, as well as taking into account those wishes and comments that colleagues spoke at information policy meetings in 2022.

The ranking still includes three blocks of indicators: the website, social networks and the presence of the university in the information agenda (media). However, now the formula that ranks a university for work in social networks takes into account more weighted indicators that combine both quantitative and qualitative assessments — the generally recognized ER and ERR, which partly reflect the quality of the content and the effectiveness of the organization’s activities in the social network, as well as unique algorithmic formulas with many calculation options, depending on the scale and depth of the impact of each post, the level of audience interest, etc.”

Vitaly Kvashin, Head of the Center for Monitoring and Rating Research at KBSU, said: “According to the results of the media rating for January 2023, the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov not only retained its position in the top 50 most media universities in Russia, but also improved its result by 15 positions, taking 35th place.

At 23rd position, KBSU improved its result in the «social networks» block of indicators, entering the Top 30 most active Russian universities in social networks, taking 21st place. Positions of the university in social networks: RUTUBE — 4th place, Telegram — 27th place, Odnoklassniki — 34th place, VKontakte — 108th place.

The results of the January M-Rate ranking of universities confirm the continuation of large-scale work on the digital transformation of KBSU, aimed at expanding the communication of the university, its presence in the global Internet space, and ensuring the openness of information.”
