The V North Caucasus Model UN “Hearth of Peace” – 2024 opened at KBSU

April 25, 2024 at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov began the work of the V North Caucasus Model United Nations “Home of Peace” — 2024. The forum is designed to teach young people the skills of resolving disputes peacefully and conducting negotiations based on diplomatic principles.

About 150 delegates from KBSU students, diplomatic classes at gymnasium No. 4 in Nalchik and schoolchildren from North Ossetia-Alania took part in the anniversary North Caucasus Model UN.

The acting director addressed with a welcoming speech and wishes for successful work. Vice-Rector for Organization of Admissions and Pre-University Activities of KBSU Arsen Kharaev, Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia for the North Caucasus in Mineralnye Vody Sergei Nuppa, Chairman of the Committee of the Parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria on Education, Science and Youth Affairs Nina Emuzova, Chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society , Director of the Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth of the Ministry of Education of Kabardino-Balkaria Aksana Karasheva, Director of the Municipal Educational Institution «Gymnasium No. 4» of the city. “The UN was created as a platform where any state, regardless of its socio-economic internal political structure, size of territory, population, could discuss their problems and find the right solutions based on justice. I want you to be guided in your work by the principle of democratic equality of sovereign states — this is the basis of the UN postulates,”

– stressed the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Nyuppa.

Representative of the legislative branch Nina Emuzova spoke about the important educational mission of the UN Model, noting that thanks to such forums, young people become more mature, with a clearly expressed position on certain global problems of the world.

The initiator and ideologist of the North Caucasus Model UN, director of gymnasium No. 4 in Nalchik, Rimma Nagoeva, said that after five years of work, the model movement continues to develop, attracting participants from different regions of the country and beyond:

“The UN model has become a platform for public public diplomacy, on which we model the work of real UN committees. We were able to interest young diplomats from different parts of Russia, as well as neighboring countries, in this game.”
Students of the diplomatic classes of gymnasium No. 4, under the leadership of Zulia Gedgafova, presented a diary about participation in the Moscow International Model UN — 2024 named after V. I. Churkin.

The game program included simulations of meetings of General Assembly committees in Russian and English on the issue of secure governance of the Internet space, as well as a meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on the issue of international labor migration. “Diplomatic representatives” of various UN countries voiced their positions, held informal negotiations, formed coalitions to promote their initiatives, and developed a working draft resolution.

As part of the educational block of the UN Model “Home of Peace — 2024”, master classes on acting, folk games, native language and culture in the digital environment were held.

On April 26–27, the V North Caucasus Model UN will continue to work in gymnasium No. 4 in Nalchik.

The Model UN work program will end with a briefing by the diplomat “Youth as a resource for developing the diplomacy of the future.”
