Release date: 25.11.2022

On November 22, 2022, the VII regional Christmas meetings began in the Parliament of the KBR as part of the XXXI International Christmas Educational Readings «Global Challenges of Modernity and the Spiritual Choice of Man». At the first site at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov held a meeting “Problems of the spiritual choice of youth in the system of socio-cultural values” The discussion was attended by deputies of the Parliament of the KBR, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the KBR, the Ministry of Youth chambers at the Parliament of the KBR, the media of the KBR, students and teachers of the KBSU.

Before the start of the round table, an excursion around the cultural centers of the university was organized for the guests. With great interest, parliamentarians, public, political and religious figures got acquainted with the expositions of the Center for Adyghe Culture named after A. Tsipinov, Center for Balkar Culture named after K. S. Otarov and the Scientific and Educational Center of the Russian Language and Culture.

Opening the meeting, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs Nina Emuzova stressed that the organizers of the meeting are important to «talk on an equal footing», as there are students in the hall who have seriously worked on the announced topic.

«We live in a very interesting time, at a historical turning point — this is the opinion of experts. This is a time of cardinal changes, and we think — what will happen? We want to understand what Russia is like today and what it will be like in 10 years,” Nina Emuzova outlined the purpose of the conversation. Speaking about the Valdai meetings, Nina Emuzova quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin: “Today we are on the threshold of a new world order. The world is changing and the next 10 years will be the most difficult” — Nina Emuzova noted that the last 30 years have shown that it is impossible to live without ideology. When the decree on the preservation and strengthening of traditional moral values was signed, it was just a celebration of the soul, N. Emuzova emphasized and invited everyone to answer the questions for themselves: in which country will we live, in which we want to live, and what have we done for this? Professor Svetlana Bashieva, Head of the Department of the Russian Language and General Linguistics of the KBSU, acquainted the audience with her study of the definition of the word «spiritual».

S. Bashieva spoke about a survey she conducted among students, where the majority still could not define exactly what a “spiritual choice” is and how it is related to human morality. The problem that Nina Emuzova proposed to us for discussion is extremely topical: young people have little idea of what a spiritual choice is, — Svetlana Bashieva emphasized. Minister for Youth Affairs of the KBR Azamat Lyuyev, who then spoke, stressed that the recently adopted foundations of state policy for the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values are a fundamental document. After the collapse of the USSR, completely different values were transmitted to us. The turning point came in the 2000s, with the advent of Vladimir Putin, when Russia began to rehabilitate itself as a state. It is a pity that we lost so much time before coming to a strategic document, — said A. Lyuev.

The Minister for Youth Affairs is sure that it is necessary to pay close attention to the development of the so-called tools to convey spiritual and moral values to young people. KBSU students took an active part in the conversation about the problems of the spiritual choice of youth.
