Stanislav Kushchev, senior lecturer at the Institute of Management, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov and head of the RGS youth club «Mountain People,» has won the competitive selection process for the «RGS Reserve Project.» In August, he will join an expedition to the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

Participants will travel to one of Russia’s most remote regions. The focus of the work will be the area of Mount St. Dionysius, located near Anadyr. This area is of great scientific interest due to its diverse natural ecosystems and unique paleontological finds. The main goal of the expedition is to conduct comprehensive research to support the establishment of a new specially protected natural area (SPNA) there.

The RGS expedition will explore Cretaceous-Paleogene deposits, describe sections, and collect samples of fossil flora and fauna. Of particular value are the remains of an ancient Arctic forest, unique in the world.

Volunteers will study modern vegetation, identify invasive species, and analyze human impacts on fragile ecosystems.

The program includes lectures, workshops, and meetings with experts.

«For me, participating in the RGS Reserves project is an opportunity to contribute to the study of our country’s unique natural areas and gain experience that I can share with students. Such expeditions allow me to see Russia from a completely new perspective and become part of genuine scientific research,» noted Stanislav Kushchev.

The RGS Reserves project aims to promote and preserve unique natural sites by engaging young people in environmental volunteerism. The 2026 season is supported by the Presidential Fund for Nature.
