A school of mentoring in a new format is working at KBSU

September 8-9, 2022 at the boiling point of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov is going through the educational program «mentor of KBSU» for senior students. The goal of the project is to promote the adaptation and full disclosure of the potential of the personality of first-year students with the help of mentoring senior and graduate students.

The organizers, the Department for Youth Policy and Educational Work and the Student Council of KBSU, assure that in this format the school of mentoring at the university is being implemented for the first time.

“We selected guys from each structural unit. With this program, we wanted to help every freshman adjust through their senior years. After all, the senior students are well versed in the university, they know all the pitfalls of the student body,” — said Ksenia Zhuravel, director of the support center for student associations, youth programs and projects.

More than 150 students registered on the project page on the leader-id website, deciding to try themselves as a tutor. On the first day, the guys passed lectures-trainings on «History of KBSU», «Youth and student associations», «Science», «Psychological support of the group», «Calendar of events», «Scholarships and material assistance».

Experienced students and graduates who, after receiving their diplomas, decided to stay within the walls of their native university and continue their labor, educational and scientific activities here became lecturers for young mentors. On the second day, the future mentors were tested for the assimilation of the material covered, from that moment the first stage of screening began.

Then, future freshmen mentors will undergo training on team building, development of communication skills and the formation of leadership competencies. The last stage is the interview. Since there are many more applications than academic groups, there will be a selection, which, as Ksenia Zhuravel assures, will be tough but fair. For first-year students, the best of the best tutors will be selected. Upon completion of the program, all participants will receive certificates of passing the school of mentors of KBSU.

The best graduates of the program will have more opportunities to participate in all schools of the asset and receive increased social scholarships.
