KBSU Presents Experience in Cross-Cultural Adaptation of International Students at an International Conference in Krasnodar
Zulfiya Ulbasheva, an associate professor in the Department of Russian Language and General Linguistics at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU) named after Kh. M. Berbekov, participated in the international conference «Philological Sciences in the 21st Century: Relevance, Multipolarity, and Development Prospects.» Hosted by Kuban State University, the event brought together leading experts in linguistics and related humanities to discuss a wide range of pressing issues, including cognitive linguistics, linguocultural studies, and the analysis of language function across various types of discourse. Particular attention was given to language teaching methodology and cross-cultural communication.
In her presentation, titled «Intercultural Dialogue as a Tool for the Academic and Educational Socialization of International Students,» Zulfiya Ulbasheva shared findings on how international students interact with the multicultural environment at the KBSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. The study was based on student surveys covering topics such as academic adaptation, social integration, as well as the challenges faced and the support received.
«International students at our institute show positive progress in their academic and educational adaptation. The only persistent difficulty relates to the terminology used in specific academic disciplines—a natural phenomenon when mastering material characterized by a formal, scientific register. Social adaptation is evidenced by the students’ active participation in various university events. Those surveyed highlighted the valuable support provided by their academic advisors, faculty members, and the administration,» Zulfiya Ulbasheva noted.
At the conclusion of the conference, Zulfiya Ulbasheva was awarded an official certificate of participation.
