«90 years of KBSU: people and events» — a book for the anniversary

“90 years of KBSU: people and events” — under this title, a book was published for the anniversary of the university, authored by Bashieva Svetlana Konakbievna — Doctor of Philology, Professor, Head of the Department of Russian Language and General Linguistics of the Social and Humanitarian Institute of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, Honored Scientist of the KBR.

The first issue of the series «The image of KBSU in faces» presents, in alphabetical order, brief biographical data on 425 employees who worked at different times in the structural divisions of the university.

The book is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the first organization of higher education in our region: in the period from 1932 to 1957 it acted as the Kabardino-Balkarian State Pedagogical Institute, and in 1957 it was transformed into the Kabardino-Balkarian State University.

Several generations of teachers took part in the formation and development of the university, among which there are many outstanding scientists and teachers who were educated before the October Socialist Revolution; graduates of the leading universities of the USSR, sent to the KBASSR in the 30-60s of the twentieth century to assist in the organization and conduct of the educational process, research and educational work, in the formation of the intellectual potential of the republic; graduates of KBGPI, KBSU, who continued and continue the traditions of their teachers.

Rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov noted in his introductory article: “The book will open new pages in the history of the university to the generations who studied at KBGPI and KBSU, in which hundreds of teachers left an immortal mark, whose main task was not only to transmit knowledge, bring the light of enlightenment, but also to educate worthy of people. We thank professors S.K. Bashieva, P.A. Kuzminov, M.H. Hokonov for collecting materials in structural divisions, we thank the employees of the KBSU archive, everyone involved in the preparation of the book, through which the many thousands of university staff pay tribute and gratitude to the Teachers. Our task is to remember and comprehend their activities. This is how a living connection between generations can be created and a tradition can be formed. The past must serve the future.»

In continuation of this thought, Professor S.K. Bashieva explains: “The series “The image of KBSU in faces” is not only a tribute to the memory of those who wholeheartedly served the system of national education and science, but also a thread leading to important milestones in the history of our university. Unfortunately, the KBGPI archive for 1932-1942 has not been preserved. With its presence, the collective image of the university would certainly be fuller, more multifaceted. During the Great Patriotic War, when in August 1942 the troops of Nazi Germany were approaching Nalchik, the Pedagogical Institute was evacuated to the Georgian SSR. The occupation in different regions of the republic lasted from two to six months — from August 12, 1942 to January 11, 1943. The activities of the university were resumed in January 1943, but the archive was not returned to Kabardino-Balkaria.

Sources in the preparation of the anniversary edition «90 years of KBSU: people and events» were: 1) books by Vice-Rector of KBSU, Secretary of the Party Committee of the CPSU of the university Lesev Vitaly Dmitrievich, in which the fate of employees, students, graduates of KBGPI who participated in the Great Patriotic War is reflected in the format of documentary essays war; 2) orders, questionnaires, autobiographies and other documents stored in the KBSU archive; 3) information collected by professors P.A. Kuzminov, M.Kh. Hokonov; 4) scientific, journalistic works; 5) memories of colleagues, relatives, graduates; 6) materials posted in 2016–2021. in my blogs “Image of KBSU in faces”, “Graduates of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of KBSU”; 7) information posted on the websites https://kbsu.ru/, http://podvignaroda.ru/, https://pamyat-naroda.ru/, https://obd-memorial.ru/html/

Svetlana Konakbievna plans to publish the book “The Immortal Regiment of KBSU” with the second issue from the series “The Image of KBSU in Faces”.

To date, she has collected and systematized material on 440 employees, students and graduates of the university who took part in the Great Patriotic War. The third issue, which the author intends to call «History of KBSU: formation and development», will reflect information about the transformation of the university, in particular, its structural subdivisions.
