Why you should participate in the Economics Olympiad at KBSU?

February 21, 2023 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov passed the Olympiad in social science (section «Economics»). 20 11th-graders from schools 3, 4, 5, 9, 13, 14, 21, 28, 29 came to the Institute of Law, Economics and Finance to test their knowledge. Nalchik, the Palace of Creativity for Children and Youth, SBEI DAT «Sunny City», the schools of Baksan, Zaragizh, Islamey and Atazhukino.

Elena Mashukova, Director of IPEiF, Ph.D. in Law, addressed the participants of the Olympiad with a welcoming speech:

«I wish you all good luck. We really hope that during the time you stay with us, you will get used to it a little, because we are convinced that you are the ones who will definitely come to enter our training areas. But whatever profession you choose, let everything work out for the best!»

To solve the tasks of the Olympiad, high school students were given 120 minutes. In the first part, the students had to solve two problems, and in the second part, they had to write an essay of 1.5 to 2 pages on one of the four proposed topics. As essay topics, the organizers chose the statements of famous politicians and business tycoons: Vladimir Putin, Mahammed ibn Rashid al-Maktoum, Warren Buffett and Helmut Schmidt. Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Accounting and Analytical Information Systems of the IPEiF Svetlana Sizhazheva noted:

«The main goal of the Olympiad is to popularize economic knowledge, identify schoolchildren with abilities in economics and help in career guidance. We have been hosting the Olympics for several years now. Today, among our best students there are winners of past Olympiads».

A student of school No. 21 in Nalchik, Milana Gidova, told why she decided to take part in the KBSU Olympiad: I am very interested in economics and social science in general. I am considering for admission the direction «Economics» at KBSU. Alisa Kushkhova from school No. 1 of Atazhukino shared her impressions of participating in the Olympiad: Social science is one of my favorite subjects, and economics is one of my favorite lessons.

Most likely, in the future I will choose economic direction for admission to KBSU. The winners and prize-winners of this Olympiad will be awarded additional points upon admission to the direction of preparation 38.03.01 Economics (bachelor’s degree). The results will be posted on the KBSU website in the «Olympics and competitions» section.
