Patents of KBSU have reached the international level

Release date: 17.12.2022

A biodegradable material developed by a group of scientists from the Center for Advanced Materials and Additive Technologies of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov» received a Eurasian patent for invention No. 041187. Eurasian patent for invention No. 041187 dated September 23, 2022 «Biodegradable material» provides an opportunity to protect the rights to inventions on the basis of a single Eurasian patent, valid on the territory of 9 member states of the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) : Republic of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Tajikistan, Russian Federation, Turkmenistan.

The scientific group of authors of the first Eurasian patent at KBSU, led by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Khashirova, included employees of the Center for Advanced Materials and Additive Technologies of KBSU: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Senior Researcher Amina Vindizheva, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Senior Researcher Azamat Zhansitov and Sciences, Deputy Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the KBSU for scientific and educational work Zera Beslaneeva.

The patented biodegradable composite material is designed for the recycling of such a large-tonnage polymer as polyvinyl chloride, which is used for the production of metal core insulation of wires used in modern electrical, computer and office equipment, as well as in cars and trucks for connecting on-board network equipment. In accordance with the order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1886-r dated September 24, 2015, goods that have lost their consumer properties are subject to disposal. The presented list of goods includes computer and office equipment, which includes various wires and cables.

The biodegradable composite material according to the invention based on synthetic polyvinyl chloride and modifiers of natural origin is able to solve the urgent environmental problem of recycling expired wires and used cables, which make up the majority of industrial waste. The main feature of the patented composite material is its ability to decompose only under the influence of soil microorganisms, and in the air atmosphere, wires and cables insulated with the material according to this patent do not lose their operational properties, — said acting. Vice-Rector for Research, KBSU, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Khashirova. The head of the Technology and Innovation Support Center of the Department for Scientific Research and Innovation Activities of the KBSU UNIID, Maryana Marzhohova, noted that from November 1, 2022, it will be possible to submit inventions and industrial designs to the Eurasian Patent Office in the form of 3D models in the EAPO-ONLINE system.

The Eurasian application is submitted in writing on paper or by mail, fax, e-mail or electronic form through the EAPO-ONLINE electronic exchange system through the user’s «Personal Account», as well as using an embedded electronic signature. From May 1, 2022, patent holders have the opportunity to obtain electronic (digital) patents. And here it is important to note that we received a notice of readiness to issue a Eurasian patent as early as May 20, 2022,” — said Maryana Marzhokhova, head of the TISC UNIID.

Head of UNIID KBSU Natalya Cherkesova noted that Kabardino-Balkarian State University was one of the first patent holders who began to issue electronic Eurasian patents.

«KBSU has been filing Eurasian applications electronically since 2020, which allows to reduce the time of sending through mail and the procedure for considering applications in the Eurasian Patent Office. Which markedly increased the effective patent activity in our university. And the receipt of the Eurasian patent by us brought this work to a new, international level of legal protection of the inventions of our scientists», — Natalia Cherkesova emphasized.
