KBSU Vice-Rector Svetlana Hashirova spoke at the Composites Without Borders forum

Release date: 31.03.2023

“KBSU is expanding ties with developers and consumers of polymer composite materials,” — said KBSU Vice-Rector for Research Svetlana Hashirova, a participant in the main event of the year in the industry of domestic composites — the X Forum «Composites Without Borders».

Leading Russian and foreign manufacturers discussed topical issues in the industry in Moscow, the most important of which are the achievement of Russia’s technological sovereignty, support for science and vocational education. The key topic of the forum this year is defined as «Prospects for the domestic composites industry in the face of new challenges and opportunities.»

Composite materials are used in all areas of science, technology, industry, incl. in housing, industrial and special construction, general and special engineering, metallurgy, chemical industry, energy, electronics, household appliances, clothing and footwear production, medicine, sports, arts, etc. Composites with extreme properties are in demand in the aircraft, auto, ship and rocket industries. They are used for the manufacture of elements of devices and equipment operated in aggressive environments and at high temperatures.

What the Prime Minister noted

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin sent a greeting to the participants, noting the success of the industry, the development of which the government pays priority attention. https://tass.ru/ekonomika/17385825/amp

In particular, it was emphasized that a roadmap has been approved, the implementation of which will allow the country to achieve technological sovereignty in the composites segment and enter the group of world leaders in the next eight years. In order to achieve the key goals, it is necessary to continue active work on the formation of an eco-environment that unites scientific organizations, start-ups, large industrial manufacturers, and also provide them with state support measures. Active work in these areas is carried out by all relevant ministries.

Russia produces a complete range of advanced carbon fibers, including reference ones in their categories; the only CFRP production chain in the CIS has been formed — from crude oil to high-tech products. Also M.V. Mishustin noted that in a short time it was possible to replace foreign composites in all elements of the MS-21 airliner. Composites from KBSU

In addition, KBSU scientists have created unique products — polymers for 3D printing of heavy-duty components of robots, drones, exoskeletons, prostheses, space suits, aircraft and are successfully cooperating with leading Russian companies. In the field of import substitution and ensuring technological sovereignty, the problem with medical materials is especially acute.

In KBSU, within the framework of the Priority 2030 project, medical polymers are being developed that allow for technological sovereignty in the field of implants for reconstructive surgery, and clinical trials are being conducted in 2023. At the forum S. Hashirova presented a report «High-temperature thermoplastic polymers and composites: current state and development prospects in the Russian Federation», as well as new network educational master’s programs, opened jointly with Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

Svetlana Yuryevna noted:

The country has opportunities to ensure technological sovereignty in the field of high-temperature polymers and composites, there are domestic technologies, personnel are being trained, but in order to speed up this process, it is necessary to combine the competencies of developers of materials, products, equipment throughout the country. One of the brightest examples of such a consortium is the Elbrus University Mirror Engineering Center, created at KBSU by the NTI Center of SPbPU.

During six months of interaction, it was possible to fulfill the agreement within the framework of the Union State, to develop thermoplastic polymer composite materials of a new generation, which have a number of advantages compared to all known composite materials and are capable of replacing metals. These composites are presented at the exhibition.

Forum participants, heads of large state corporations highly appreciated the work of the Center for Advanced Materials and Additive Technologies of KBSU in the field of high-thermoplastic binders and composites. Within the framework of the forum, agreements were reached on cooperation between KBSU and organizations-developers and consumers of polymer composite materials. See also:
