KBSU Scientific and Educational Library Included in the National Register of Scientific and Technical Libraries

Release date: 19.10.2026

The Scientific and Educational Library of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU) has been officially included in the national Register of Scientific and Technical Libraries and Centers for Scientific and Technical Information. This significant milestone was achieved as part of the federal project «Development of Scientific and Technical Libraries,» which stems from the Russian President’s directive dated March 30, 2024 (No. Pr-616). The KBSU library has been assigned a unique identification number, formalizing its status within the country’s unified national system of scientific and technical information.

The selection process was conducted by the State Public Scientific and Technical Library of Russia, commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Experts evaluated institutions based on several rigorous criteria, including the uniqueness of their collections, the level of digitalization, readiness to integrate into a centralized cataloging service, and the alignment of their scientific resources with Russia’s priority areas for technological development. The primary objective of this selection is to provide the information infrastructure necessary for the nation’s technological leadership.

Inclusion in the Register opens up significant opportunities for the library. The federal project includes the allocation of up to 100 grants, with each grant potentially reaching 50 million rubles. These funds are intended for three-year development programs, encompassing the extensive renewal of collections, comprehensive digitalization, and infrastructure modernization. Being listed in the national Register is a mandatory requirement for participating in the competition and securing this funding.

«Registration in the national Register marks a turning point for us. Our library is now transitioning from a local university department into a full-fledged participant in the national system of scientific and technical information.» «This gives us direct access to federal funding, advanced digitization technologies, staff training programs, and an unprecedented exchange of resources with the country’s leading scientific centers,» emphasized Aimani Gerieva, director of the Scientific and Educational Library at KBSU.
