How to make a decision to be a dentist in an hour? – Visit the Open Day at KBSU
On October 24, potential applicants of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov was met at the Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. Schoolchildren learned how the educational process is built, got acquainted with the modern equipment of the simulation center and even tried themselves as an attending physician. The day of open doors began with a welcoming speech by teachers and students of the Institute of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. The future applicants paid special attention to the transparent educational environment created at the institute, which allows avoiding a biased assessment of knowledge. Then the high school students went on a tour of the educational building of the institute. The fourth-year students showed the children computer classes and classrooms, where they receive theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
«Every year about 100-150 future applicants from all regions of Kabardino-Balkaria visit our institute on the Open Day. After the excursions, the number of people wishing to join us increases many times over — this is pleasant, but also natural, since the institute carries out the educational process at the highest technological level and this can be seen during a visit. We are very glad that our teachers and students can be of interest to potential applicants, to show how important and wonderful our profession is», — shared her impressions of the event, deputy director of the Institute of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery Lyana Zhanimova.
The schoolchildren were told in detail about the equipment on which future doctors hone their skills. Those who wished were offered to sit in a dentist’s chair and try to work as a drill on educational medical simulators. High school students lined up to perform tooth preparation and intraoral 3D scanning.
«They showed us how to use the drill correctly, it was interesting, easier than I imagined, and not so scary. I like medical professions, and, most likely, I will enter here», — a student of the MKOU «Gymnasium No. 14» in Nalchik, Amina Bapinaeva, shared her plans.
We ended the open day with a presentation from students on the topic “Oral Hygiene” and parting words to take care of your health and not be afraid of dentists. The Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of KBSU was established in 2018, and since then four courses of dentists have successfully graduated from its walls. All educational programs of the institute are invariably very popular among applicants. Well, tomorrow, October 27, open days will be held at the Faculty of Medicine and at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies.
