Dreams That Came True at KBSU

Young people from all over the country study at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. Miroslava Vasilchenko is a student at the Social Sciences and Humanities Institute, a gold medalist from the DPR, and one of the brightest stars of the extracurricular life.

Miroslava spent her childhood in the small mining town of Snezhnoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic. It was there, surrounded by a loving family, that her passion for creativity and the humanities was born.

«My parents weren’t just a support system—they became my main mentors. Without their support, I wouldn’t have decided to take this path,» Miroslava recalls.
She graduated from high school with a gold medal and an impressive stack of commendations for her active participation in class and school life. She prepared thoroughly for the Unified State Exam: she worked with tutors and studied the material in online courses.

Miroslava’s choice of journalism was largely determined by her older brother, who always served as a role model for her. He studied journalism at Kabardino-Balkaria State University, and Miroslava, already enamored with literature and public speaking, decided to follow in his footsteps.

«My brother has always been a role model for me. I also wanted to work with words, communicate with people, and do it competently and professionally,» she says.
Miroslava specifically avoided universities in the capital: big cities weren’t appealing to her. Kabardino-Balkaria, on the other hand, seemed the ideal place for a peaceful study and creative development.

«There’s none of the bustle of a big city here, but there’s an atmosphere in which you want to study and create,» Miroslava explains.
Her first days at university were memorable for a curious but warm moment. «My classmates and I were late for our first class because we stayed late in the cafeteria. «It might seem like a small thing, but it was this incident that made us friends,» Vasilchenko recalls with a smile.

Even before enrolling, she knew about the «Vivat, Student» competition and the interesting forums held at KBSU. These projects were what attracted her and gave her the feeling that something big and meaningful lay ahead.

From her first year, she immersed herself in student events:

«It all started with the ‘Initiation of the First-Year Students of the Saratov State University.’ I was lucky: I got there not just as a participant, but as a presenter,» Miroslava recalls. «And then it all started: ‘Prosvet,’ ‘Avgustenok,’ the Grand Prix of the Student Spring, participation in the All-Russian Student Spring… But my most memorable achievement was the title of ‘Vivat, Student — 2024.’ I dreamed of this back in school, and now my dream has come true. Now I’m happy that I can pass on my experience to younger students, organizing celebrations for them that will remain in their memories for a lifetime.»

Miroslava plans to pursue a career in journalism and creative writing. And for her, a KBSU diploma is more than just a higher education document.

«It’s an entire era: memories, friends, a sea of ​​emotions. Looking back, I realize I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. And if I could start over, I would choose KBSU again,» the student shares.
