Admissions Story: How KBSU Transformed a Shy Schoolboy into a Confident Student and Creative Individual
As the new academic year approaches, we continue to share the stories of students for whom Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov has become more than just an alma mater, but a place for personal growth and professional development. Today, our hero is Imran Zhashuyev, a student at the Institute of Electronics, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence (major in Computer Science and Engineering). His journey into IT began with a childhood interest in computers, and it was this passion that led him to KBSU.
«My main supporters are my parents, Bashir and Madina Zhashuyev. They supported me not only in choosing my future profession but also in my creative endeavors,» Imran shares. Imran was a diligent student at school and graduated with honors, but wasn’t exactly the star of the class. Despite this, he was always surrounded by friends who made school days fun. He had no doubts about his choice of major: a passion for hardware and coding had guided him since childhood.
«I did well on the Unified State Exam, scoring enough to get a scholarship. I enrolled in the Institute of Artificial Intelligence—that’s what it was called back then. I’ve always loved programming and understanding computers. I knew that if I prepared, I’d succeed. I just sat down and did everything I could,» Imran says.
Although Imran had the opportunity to enroll in universities in the capital, he chose KBSU—not only because it was close to home, but also because of the peace of mind it provided.
«There are several reasons to stay here. The university is located in my hometown, where people live who are close to me in spirit, traditions, and values. I didn’t want to leave, even though the opportunity was there. «Before enrolling, I knew little about KBSU, but during my studies, I realized that everything here is much more serious than it seems at first glance,» he explains.
While Imran hadn’t shown himself to be an activist at school, he discovered a whole new side of himself at KBSU. The breadth of extracurricular activities amazed him: studies here coexist with creativity, and this atmosphere captivates him from the very first day.
«To be honest, KBSU pleasantly surprised me with the number of opportunities it offers outside the classroom. At school, I never even thought I’d ever participate in competitions and festivals. Thanks to the university, I made many friends with similar interests, overcame my shyness, and became bolder. I learned to perform and discovered creative abilities I never knew I had,» Imran admits.
Looking to the future, Imran doesn’t make grandiose plans for decades to come, but he is confident in his professional goals.
«I don’t like to make predictions, but in five years I’d like to see myself as a sought-after specialist in a good job, making a difference to my family and friends. If I had the chance to go back in time and choose a university again, I’d come back to KBSU,» the student says.
Finally, Imran offered some advice to those still hesitating and pondering their choice of university.
«Dear applicant, remember the most important thing: if you truly want to study, you can gain knowledge anywhere. Success depends only on you. But by enrolling at KBSU, you’ll receive more than just a diploma. Here you’ll find true friends, discover your creative potential, and become part of a large university family. Don’t be afraid to try, and everything will work out!»
