Admissions Story: From New Delhi to Nalchik – How Sagar Sharma Found His Calling at KBSU
Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov has long been a magnet for talented young people from around the world. Among them is Sagar Sharma, an energetic young man from India. A student at KBSU’s Medical Academy, he successfully combines his studies with creativity, finding harmony and inspiration in both.
A Conscious Choice: Why KBSU?
Sagar Sharma deliberately searched for a university where he could obtain a medical education. After considering many options, he settled on KBSU – attracted by the international atmosphere and vibrant student life.
«I spent a long time researching various universities. KBSU attracted me with its high level of education, vibrant cultural life, and the fact that it attracts students from many countries. And my parents supported me in this decision,» says Sagar. Arriving in Russia in 2022, the young man faced his first serious challenge—the language barrier. However, perseverance and immersion quickly paid off.
«Before leaving for Russia, I was honestly very worried: would I be able to master Russian and live comfortably here? But now I speak it fluently and can communicate on any topic. I enjoy learning a new language, and communicating with Russian friends helps me get to know it better,» the student says with a smile.
The main goal: medicine.
Learning Russian was just the first step. The most important thing lay ahead—studying at the KBSU Medical Academy, which required full dedication. Sagar admits it wasn’t easy, but the support of his professors helped him believe in himself. He is especially grateful to his anatomy instructors.
«Our anatomy professors are wonderful teachers. They impart so much knowledge and patience to us! Everything I learn in class will definitely be useful in my future career as a doctor. «I came here to learn how to treat people, and I don’t intend to deviate from this goal,» the student emphasizes.
Creativity as Second Nature
But medicine is only one side of Sagar’s life. The second is creativity, and his love for it stems from childhood. Sagar grew up in New Delhi, in a family where art was not a hobby, but a way of life. His father runs his own school, where students learn how to make films and music videos. His mother owns a beauty salon. Inspired by his father’s example and the work of the famous Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan, Sagar dreamed of a great future on stage from an early age.
This dream didn’t remain in faraway New Delhi—Sagar brought it with him to Nalchik. Here, at KBSU, he became an active member of the university’s creative groups, including the Amix Song Theater.
«The Amix team has become a real family for me. We spend so much time together, rehearsing, and experiencing so much together.» I really appreciate each of them. My friends and I perform at concerts and student festivals. I have the opportunity to sing songs in English, Russian, and even Kabardian. I also practice traditional Caucasian dances,” Sagar shares.
Nalchik – a city that has become his home
Over the years of his studies, Sagar has fallen deeply in love with the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. He discovers new places, studies Russian, Adyghe, and Balkar cultures, and tries the national cuisine.
“Nalchik is an incredibly beautiful city. My favorite place is the Thousand Steps Health Trail. And Elbrus is incredible, it takes your breath away! My favorite food is Kabardian puff bread and Balkar khichins with herbal tea. I can’t imagine my life without these flavors,” Sagar says with genuine delight.
His plans include a trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg for new experiences. He also has a big dream of making a film in Nalchik with his father.
“I want to bring my dad here, and we’ll shoot a music video or even a film against the backdrop of these mountains. Can you imagine? Indian cinema in the Caucasus! It’ll be something special,” the student says.
A Diploma and New Horizons
When asked what KBSU means to him, Sagar answers without hesitation:
“This is the best university for those who want to receive a quality education and pursue creative and scientific endeavors. I love KBSU and am grateful for the opportunities it gives me.”
Concluding the conversation, Sagar addresses those who are just considering applying:
“I recommend young people from all over the world to come to Nalchik and study at KBSU. Here you will not only gain a profession but also an unforgettable experience. Come and see for yourself!”
