2023 is declared as the Year of the Teacher and Mentor

Release date: 30.06.2022

On June 27, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a Decree declaring 2023 the Year of the Teacher and Mentor in order to recognize the special status of teachers, including those engaged in mentoring. According to the decree, the Government of the Russian Federation was ordered to form an organizing committee for the Year of the Teacher and Mentor within three months, approve its composition and ensure the development and approval of a plan of main events.

The executive authorities of the regions and local self-government bodies are recommended to take the necessary measures within the framework of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor in the Russian Federation. The Decree comes into force from the date of its signing. The President’s decision to declare 2023 the Year of the Teacher and Mentor once again speaks of the high status of these specialists in our society and the importance of their work.

We see how the popularity of this profession is growing, what bright and motivated applicants come to pedagogical universities, with what enthusiasm they work, young specialists join the teaching cohort, how they are supported by experienced colleagues and mentors, how professional competitions develop and how new pedagogical stars light up.

For our part, we are doing everything to bring the teaching profession to a qualitatively new level. For example, we support important legislative initiatives to abandon the wording «educational service» and reduce reporting. We also give every specialist the opportunity to show their abilities in professional competitions. «I am sure that the events of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor will be another important step towards enhancing the prestige of the teaching profession», — commented Sergey Kravtsov, Minister of Education of the Russian Federation.
