Release date: 04.04.2025

A presentation of a book by Olga Vilkovskaya took place at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. The collection «I can’t help but write poetry» was published in the university’s printing house using funds received from the university’s income-generating activities.

Olga Vilkovskaya is a student of the Social and Humanitarian Institute of KBSU in the field of Philology (profile «Domestic Philology» (Russian language and literature). Despite the fact that she lost her sight in childhood, she is an excellent student, reads a lot, writes poetry, loves history, especially the history of the 19th century, and studies French on her own.

Olga felt a passion for writing in childhood. She wrote her first poem at the age of 12. Now the girl recalls that experience with laughter, perhaps because she is very demanding of her creativity.

More than 10 years have passed since I wrote my first poem, and during this time not a day goes by without some new line coming to my mind. Sometimes I catch myself thinking in verse. For me, the world around me is poetry. It seems to me that I could not not write, even if I wanted to. Even if I put such a goal for myself. For me, writing poetry is like breathing,

— the student said.

Olga considers herself an unusually happy person:

I am one of those people who are happy with everything in life. I have a wonderful family, a loving mother, two younger sisters, and a grandmother. They have always been there for me in the most difficult moments of my life. I do not suffer at all from the fact that I can hardly see. Moreover, it seems to me that God gave me something much more valuable in exchange for my sight – from childhood until today, I have always been surrounded by exceptionally wonderful people, and I am very grateful to Him for that.

Her teachers, classmates, and friends came to meet the young talent.

Professor, thanks to whose initiative it became possible to publish the first printed poetry collection of Olga Vilkovskaya, head of the Department of Russian Language and General Linguistics of KBSU Svetlana Bashievna is sure that her student is endowed with a divine gift «to write not only poetry, but also to feel what others do not feel.»

It seems to me that she sees what we do not see, hears what we do not hear, and that is why such beautiful poems are born from her. Literally like a stream they flow onto the pen,

— noted Svetlana Konakbievna.

The collection «I can’t not write poetry» is the fruit of the painstaking work of its author. According to calculations by Zukhra Kuchukova, professor of the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature at KBSU, it included 216 texts of different genre and style modifications: landscape, philosophical, love, lullabies, zoomorphic, civil poems, historical sketches.

And all these diverse genres are united by the author’s intelligent attitude to the word. If I were asked to name Olya’s metacode, I would say that this is an intelligent poet with a high IQ,

— Zukhra Kuchukova emphasized.

The participants of the meeting immersed themselves in the atmosphere of creativity, listened to Olga’s poems and read the lines that sank into their souls. Each poem by O. Vilkovskaya reflects her experiences, Olga shares her joys and disappointments, making them understandable to everyone. Her style is bright and metaphorical; she masterfully uses images and rhythm. In addition, Olga has experience in artistic translation of her poems into French.

Public figure, writer, poet Farida Kudayeva promised to show Olga’s poetry collection to authoritative writers in Moscow, and perhaps they will give recommendations to the young author for joining the Union of Writers of Russia.

The audience wished Olga Vilkovskaya further creative success and the implementation of her plans. By the way, she wants to connect her future with her native university: after completing her postgraduate studies, to become a university teacher.

Olga thanked the audience for the warm reviews of her work and expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in the creation of the first printed edition of her poems: acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov, director of the KBSU State Institute of Geography Muslim Tamazov, Professor Svetlana Bashieva, head of the Printing Department Valentina Midova, head of the Editorial and Publishing Department of the KBSU Library Lidiya Khakulova, rector’s assistent Sergei Shagin.
