What you need to know to enter KBSU correctly in 2023

What new will the largest university of Kabardino-Balkaria, a participant of the Priority 20230 strategic academic leadership program implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, offer to applicants in 2023?

Currently, about 18 thousand people study at KBSU at the levels of secondary vocational and higher education — students, graduate students, residents from almost 50 subjects of the Russian Federation and more than 40 countries of the world.

Residents of other regions of Russia make up 15% of students, foreigners — 11%. Consequently, three-quarters of the contingent of this federal state budgetary educational institution are residents of Kabardino-Balkaria who entered the university after graduating from schools and colleges of our republic, as well as receiving a second higher education and mastering programs for training highly qualified personnel.

In connection with the change in the conditions of the admission campaign in 2023, explanations are given to applicants by Timur Tabishev, head of the department for organizing admissions of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Applicants of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov specialties and areas of training in medical, economic, legal profiles (general medicine, pediatrics, economics, jurisprudence, etc.) are traditionally in the greatest demand.

Along with this, admission statistics over the past few years show an increase in interest in such areas of training as linguistics, architecture, information security, and others.

In 2023, the university will continue to enroll in the first year of educational programs, which began in 2022. These are such specialties as clinical psychology and medical and preventive work. Now students of other universities are applying to KBSU who want to transfer to KBSU to master these specialties.

Since 2021, interest in the areas of preparing an IT profile has also increased. In 2022, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies was established at the university, where training is conducted in such areas of training as applied mathematics and informatics, informatics and computer technology, applied informatics and information security, for which the admission quotas for state-funded places were already closed for the first stage of admission.

Separate quota

The order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation dated February 10, 2023 with amendments to the current procedure for admission to universities in 2023 is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

In accordance with this document, the concept of a “separate quota” was introduced (the former name was “a special quota for children of participants in a special military operation in the DPR, LPR and Ukraine”). In 2023, the list was expanded to include the Heroes of the Russian Federation; persons awarded with three Orders of Courage; children of persons who took or are taking part in a special operation in the territories of Ukraine, the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Herson regions; children of military personnel or employees of federal authorities sent to other states and taking part in hostilities in the territories of foreign states.

It should be noted that the Heroes of the Russian Federation, persons awarded three Orders of Courage, as well as the children of those persons who died or were injured in the line of military service, can enter KBSU, like other Russian universities, without entrance exams (without presenting the results Unified State Examination), with the exception of those exams that we call internal entrance tests of a creative and (or) professional orientation. Representatives of the other categories listed above enter KBSU based on the results of passing entrance exams at the university or on the results of passing the Unified State Examination.

For a separate quota, legislation provides for at least 10% of the total volume of budget places in the direction of training or specialty. The hotel quota is allocated only for bachelor’s and specialist’s educational programs.

Admission based on the results of two USE

The Methodological Letter of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation dated February 14, 2023 expanded the list of areas of study for which applicants have the right to take entrance exams at the university.

That means, when enrolling in some educational programs of higher education, an applicant can submit the results of the Unified State Examination in only two subjects, and pass the third exam on the basis of KBSU.

This information is especially relevant for students who, after graduation, intend to get a higher education, having the results of only two USE (if the third application was not submitted or the result in the third USE exam is low).

In what areas of the undergraduate level are two USE enough, and the third exam can be taken within the walls of the university?

For the first time in many years

In some areas of full-time undergraduate education, for the first time in many years, state-funded places were allocated in the areas of training «International Relations», «Psychology», «Journalism» and others. Up-to-date information on the admission rules and all educational programs announced for admission in 2023 is posted on the official website of the KBSU admission committee for the relevant levels of professional education.

Budget places for part-time and part-time education

For the first time in the last 5-6 years, the founder — the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation — provided KBSU with budget places for part-time and part-time education.

In the direction of training «Psychology» at the bachelor’s level (part-time and part-time education), 10 budget places were allocated.

In the direction of training «Social work», bachelor’s degree, correspondence course — 17 budget places.

In the direction of preparation «Pedagogical education», profile «Primary education», bachelor’s degree, correspondence course of study — 20 budget places.

There are 15 state-funded places in the Master’s program for distance learning in the direction of training «Psychological and Pedagogical Education». These are very attractive places for those applicants who plan to find a job and work immediately after graduation from school or college, but want to get a specialized education in the indicated areas of training. And also for those who want to get a second higher education.

Educational programs in English

For Russian and foreign citizens, KBSU offers educational programs in English in 2023. These are two programs of the medical profile — «General Medicine» and «Dentistry», as well as for the engineering and technical profile — the educational program «Construction».

When will the KBSU admission campaign start?

Traditionally, the start date of the KBSU admission campaign is June 20. From that time, in full-time and remote formats, the acceptance of documents necessary for admission begins. Applicants and (or) their legal representatives can bring documents to the admission committee of the KBSU (1st floor of the main building, Nalchik, Chernyshevsky St., 173).
