Release date: 09.12.2022

December 7, 2022 at the Boiling Point of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov held a discussion analytical session “Sustainable Development. Quality Education in the Period of Global Transformation”.

The session was attended by representatives of KBSU, the Ministry of Education and Science of the KBR, youth advisory structures of the KBR, students and heads of educational organizations of the republic.

The organizer is the Center for Sustainable Development of KBSU. In the discussion, they raised the issues of obtaining quality education by students of general educational organizations, secondary and higher professional educational organizations in the period of global transformation (including the period of digitalization) with the expert community, and also talked about proposals for participants in educational relations.

Quality education is undoubtedly the foundation of sustainable development. And there is a clear relationship here: the university is interested in competent, educated applicants, and in order for schools to provide quality education, the university must produce good teachers. Problems in this area relate not only to teaching methods, but also to the socio-economic nature, the motivation of students. Among the few universities in our country, KBSU managed to pass the first stage of the Priority 2030 program and received funding for the next year. This is an indicator that our university, despite the fact that it is regional, has great weight and authority among Russian universities. And our schoolchildren also need to know this — it is not necessary to go to large cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg in order to gain knowledge that will allow them to be competitive in the world market.

«I can say with full confidence that we have directions and opportunities to train specialists who can work anywhere in the world, hold good positions and receive good salaries. I propose starting next year a cycle of popular science lectures by our leading professors for schoolchildren in order to interest them and tell them about interesting professions that they may not be aware of», — shared her observations and suggestions. Vice-Rector for Research, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Khashirova.

Within the framework of sustainable development, of course, we see certain problems and areas that need to be seriously worked on. Federal programs are already being implemented to teach children computer skills. For example, at KBSU for schoolchildren, the project “Code of the Future” is being implemented, which allows you to master programming skills for free within two years and receive the appropriate certificate,” — explained Ekaterina Misostova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

Director of the Social and Humanitarian Institute, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Muslim Tamazov summed up: We need a common vision, at least for the short term, of how higher, secondary and school education will develop. Here we talked about the great work that the Ministry of Education and Science of the KBR, the government of the republic and, of course, our university are doing. This work requires enormous personal time, which the teacher spends.

We still need to know what the effect of this work is. I can voice intermediate conclusions: good applicants come to us, which means that there really is some kind of effect. But along with good students, there are guys who are not very prepared, because there is a social differentiation of students at school. And this is not connected with teachers, this is connected with the family — parents do not motivate the child enough to get an education. We are not interested in getting unskilled specialists to fill up the army of the unemployed. Therefore, our task is to work with parents. The development of Russian identity was also discussed.

I would supplement this with the Kabardino-Balkarian identity. Over the past 10 years, our country has probably spent billions of rubles on patriotic education. We must talk about ethnic, then Kabardino-Balkarian identity, and from this Russian identity is already growing. We also have a problem with native languages. There are few schools where there are teachers who motivate to learn their native language. We already have children whose parents do not speak the language — this must be corrected. We have good students who go to work in the school. At the same time, it is necessary to increase not only the remuneration of teachers, but also the prestige of the profession. The work of a doctor and a teacher is a vocation, so motivated people should go to work in schools.

This session is the first in a series of discussion and analytical sessions dedicated to the sustainable development of the region. The next one will be held in the third decade of December and will be dedicated to the conservation of the KBR ecology.

«At KBSU, we implement those areas that are important for our region and the university. Therefore, this is not the last discussion session. The most important thing for us is quality education. We will continued discussions, including those on social protection of the population, on environmental issues, and health protection of the population. We will periodically raise all important global issues at such discussion platforms with the participation of experts. We also involve schoolchildren in the discussion, because it is important for us to understand the views of young people of all ages,” — said Timur Aramisov, director of the KBSU Center for Sustainable Development.

The result of the discussion cycle will be recommendations to the executive and legislative authorities and all structures related to the issues under consideration on solving the problems of sustainable development of the region in various areas of life.
