The first Olympiad in emergency and urgent care was held at KBSU

Release date: 23.06.2025

The first Olympiad in emergency and urgent care «No Right to Error» was held at the Medical Academy of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. The participants were 5th-6th year students of the departments of general medicine and pediatrics — almost certified specialists, for whom the ability to act in emergency situations is especially important.

The main test was the «Speed and Rescue» stage. Teams of five people completed tasks in a relay race format: each participant carried out one medical manipulation and passed the baton to the next. The situations are as close as possible to real emergency cases that emergency doctors encounter. The students demonstrated the skills of applying a tourniquet to stop bleeding, taking an electrocardiogram and performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

A doctor has no right to make a mistake; a person’s life depends on the coordinated actions of the team. When every second counts, you need to be able to navigate correctly and help the patient. This is what we want to achieve thanks to this Olympiad,

— noted Irina Tkhabisimova, head of the department of general medical training and medical rehabilitation of the Medical Academy of KBSU

The Olympiad program also included a business card competition, a captains’ competition and a quest on accidents called «Emergency Call». The organizers of the first Olympiad in the republic were the Medical Academy of KBSU together with the Kabardino-Balkarian Center for Disaster Medicine and Emergency Medical Care.

I believe that such an Olympiad should have been held a long time ago, because the topic of emergency and emergency medical care is underestimated by students. In fact, this is very important. A doctor, even a professional who does not have these skills, may become confused in an emergency, and this will threaten the patient’s death,

— emphasized Alim Kardanov, director of the Kabardino-Balkarian Center for Disaster Medicine and Assistance.

The organizers plan to bring the Olympiad to the interregional level, and in the future to give it all-Russian status.
