The category of persuasion in rhetoric was discussed at a meeting of the KBSU linguistic circle
On March 3, 2023, a regular meeting of the linguistic circle of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, who operates at the Department of Russian Language and General Linguistics under the guidance of Associate Professor of the Department Zalina Dohova.
The topic of the meeting is «The category of persuasion in rhetoric.» The members of the linguistic circle had the task of preparing a speech, the purpose of which was not only to attract attention and keep this attention, but also to convince the other members of the linguistic circle of the correctness of their views.
The format of messages, the subject and object of research were chosen within the discipline «Rhetoric», which is studied by 4th year students of the direction «Philology (Russian Language and Literature)». Hadija Kazharova, in her speech on the topic «The concept of ‘Circle’ in cinema, literature and music», spoke about how the circle is perceived by people from ancient times to the present, not forgetting to mention the wheel of Samsara and V. Nabokov’s story «Circle».
She was able to convince the listeners of the importance of the category studied in the work, which symbolizes the cycle of life, the time cycle and the divine principle. In Fatima Hubolova’s message “Shrek Forever After or Postmodernism for the Poor?” the cartoon «Shrek» was considered as a fairy tale-shifter, destroying the expectation of the viewer: the ogre turns out to be good, and the handsome and rich princes and kings turn out to be bad.
The image of not only Shrek, but also Fiona was understood — also an unusual image of a princess fighting a gang of forest robbers and choosing not a handsome prince, but an ogre as her suitor. The result of a lively discussion was the conviction of the listeners that, after all, “Shrek Forever After”!
Shahsanam Rajabova conducted an impromptu tour of Turkey for the audience, based on her personal experience as a guide in this country — the audience drove the seas washing the shores of Turkey, stopped at the beautiful Turkish city of Marmaris, whose name was parsed from linguistic, historical and cultural points of view, as well as members of the circle learned a lot of new things from the history of the country.
The Shahsans managed to convince the listeners to definitely go to Turkey at least once in order to feel the spirit of one of the most interesting and majestic states. Not everyone had time to speak, so the next meeting is planned to be held in the same format.
