The Elbrus Educational and Scientific Complex of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU) named after Kh. M. Berbekov served as the base for the regional round of the All-Russian Student Law Olympiad. Over 60 students—winners and runners-up of the university-wide rounds from 13 universities in the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD)—participated in the competition. The competition was for the right to represent the region in the finals, which will be held in May at Lomonosov Moscow State University. The students were accompanied by highly qualified faculty, government officials, and academics from the district.

The project aims to strengthen the legal education and research system and promote the development of the traditions of professional student competitions in the field of law. The district round was organized by the Institute of Law, Economics, and Finance of KBSU, the Youth Union of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, and the ConsultantPlusNagoev Regional Information Center in Nalchik.

On behalf of the Acting Rector of KBSU, Elena Mashukova, Director of the Institute of Law, Economics, and Finance of KBSU, addressed the participants. She expressed confidence in the potential of the young people:

«Today, you have already been elected by your universities. I am confident that, no matter the results of this stage, you are already winners. I wish you to develop as professionals in the field you have chosen—the field of jurisprudence—and to become great individuals.»
President of the Youth Union of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, Associate Professor of the Department of Commercial Law and Fundamentals of Legal Studies at Moscow State University. Lomonosov Moscow State University Rector Margarita Paltseva expressed her gratitude to KBSU Rector Yuri Altudov for organizing the event and recounted the history of the Olympiad, which has been held since 1998.

«You represent not only your university here, but also your region. Students from the North Caucasus Federal District annually win prizes at the All-Russian finals, so we are confident that we will select the best today,» she noted.
The meeting’s moderator, Lyudmila Tkhabisimova, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Youth Union of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, Director of the North Caucasus Research Center for Political and Legal Problems, and Honored Lawyer of the Republic of Adygea, recalled that many of the Olympiad’s finalists and winners throughout its history have come from the North Caucasus, and expressed her hope that this glorious legacy will be maintained.

Elena Abrosimova, a member of the board of trustees of the Youth Union of Lawyers of Russia and head of the Department of Commercial Law and Fundamentals of Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law at Moscow State University, and Alexey Minbaleev, vice president of the Youth Union of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, chairman of the research committee, and head of the Department of Information Law and Digital Technologies at the Kutafin Moscow State Law University, also wished the contestants success.

The Olympiad was held in five main categories: civil law, criminal law, constitutional law, tax law, and information law.

Participants were assessed on five criteria (completeness of answer, public speaking, regulatory and theoretical framework), each worth two points. The maximum possible score was 10 points. Participation in the «ConsultantPlus» competition was mandatory.

The top 15 participants (three places in each category) will be invited to the finals in Moscow. Beyond fame, the Olympiad offers real career advantages.

Margarita Paltseva explained that Olympiad winners receive a variety of awards. At the district stage, these include commemorative prizes, diplomas, and medals. Thanks to sponsors, finalists can expect cash prizes (usually 30,000-50,000 rubles), certificates, and gifts from partners. Furthermore, winning the Olympiad provides significant advantages in admissions: some universities, such as Moscow State University, award additional points (1-2) for graduate school admissions, while many others take this into account for master’s program admissions. It’s important to note that the Olympiad is included in the list of Olympiads maintained by the Ministry of Education and Science, giving prize winners and runners-up priority when applying for presidential grants.

The Olympiad featured a rich scientific program. Alexey Minbaleev, Vice President of the Youth Union of Lawyers, held a roundtable discussion on «Problems of Legal Regulation of Artificial Intelligence» with representatives from universities in the North Caucasus Federal District. The discussion focused on draft federal laws on state regulation of AI applications and security issues.

Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Sergey Baburin delivered a popular science lecture on «Current Issues of Russian and International Law in Current Geopolitical Conditions.»

Representatives of the ConsultantPlus Regional Information Center, Nagoev, Ruslan Dzagoev and Islam Kapov, held a seminar for educators on «ConsultantPlus: Modern Information Technologies: AI Assistant, Database Management System.»

The speakers explained that the database management system, equipped with a link checking module, is designed to identify outdated links in internal documents.

Regulatory documents. Furthermore, this system enables the conversion of local regulations into electronic format and the ability to navigate hyperlinks within them. Centralized storage of local regulations in a database management system also facilitates this task.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony for the participants. The Olympiad organizers expressed hope that the knowledge and experience gained will help young lawyers advance science and defend the law through fair competition.
