Startup «Demetra» by KBSU student Dinara Mehmet Mit
A correspondent of the newspaper «Kabardino-Balkarian Pravda» Askhat Mechiev told about the scientific project «Demetra» by a student of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov Dinara Mehmet Mit.
«Demetra» is aimed at developing software based on artificial intelligence, which will allow determining the probability of diseases in the fetus in the early stages of pregnancy. Initially, the program will examine the results of standard blood tests that a pregnant woman takes in the first trimester. Additional tests are not required. The Python programming language and specialized libraries such as Keras and Scikit-learn are used in the development of the program. Particular attention is paid to the accuracy of the results, since the project is related to medicine. In addition, we strive to create a pleasant and convenient interface so that doctors can work comfortably,
— explained Dinara Mehmet Mit.
The author of the project won the Student Startup competition and received a million rubles for its implementation. They have already managed to purchase the powerful computers and other technical equipment necessary for the work. In addition, the Demetra project entered the top 1000 startups according to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
This area is one of the most promising today, — Dinara shared. — There are many problems in which artificial intelligence can help. In the future, I plan to develop this project together with our medical academy, in particular with the department of children’s diseases, obstetrics and gynecology. The beginning of joint work became possible thanks to the scientific supervisor, associate professor, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences Maria Mushtafarovna Tkhabisimova. Since the department of applied mathematics and informatics of the IIICT cooperates with the medical academy of KBSU, we can jointly solve applied problems in medicine in different areas.
The authors are already planning future updates to the project. For example, they are going to include the analysis of ultrasound images. In addition, a patent for registration of the computer program will be received soon. Our main goal is to ensure maximum accuracy, — emphasized Dinara. — We cannot afford to make a mistake, and this will be the determining factor in making a decision on the full launch of our software and its implementation in medical institutions.
