Scientific Discussion at Kabardino-Balkarian State University: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Society
The «21st Century Management and Marketing» student club of the Institute of Management, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov held a roundtable discussion on «The Development of Artificial Intelligence: A Blessing or a Threat to Humanity» as part of Science Week. During the discussion, participants discussed various aspects of AI’s impact on society, and their opinions were divided.
Some actively advocated for the implementation of artificial intelligence in all spheres of life, while others expressed concerns and criticized its widespread use.
AI proponents emphasized that these technologies can significantly improve education, making it more individualized and tailored to the needs of each student. They also noted that interactive learning methods using neural networks help deepen learning and develop creative thinking.
Opponents, in turn, pointed out the potential negative consequences. Among them were the massive job losses already observed in many countries. They also expressed concern that the excessive use of intelligent machines could reduce people’s motivation to independently analyze information and make decisions, which could weaken critical thinking and creativity in the long term.
During the lively exchange of opinions, issues of ethics and the safety of using artificial intelligence were also raised. Participants agreed that the development of AI requires strict regulation and the creation of international standards to prevent potential abuses and minimize risks.
Ultimately, everyone came to the same conclusion: artificial intelligence is an integral part of the modern world, and its development opens up enormous opportunities for progress. However, it was emphasized that the implementation of AI must be responsible, taking into account both technical and social aspects. It is important to find a balance between innovation and the preservation of human values so that technology benefits society rather than creating new problems.
A series of similar meetings is planned for the future, inviting experts from various fields. This will help broaden participants’ horizons and deepen their understanding of the complex challenges facing humanity in the era of digital transformation.
