«Professionals-2026» Championship: KBSU Trains Highly Qualified Medical Specialists

Release date: 24.02.2026

The regional stage of the «Professionals-2026» championship concluded at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov. This year, the university hosted the competition in eight competencies.

Three competitions were held simultaneously at the KBSU Medical College. Participants included future obstetricians, medical specialists, and, for the first time, experts in personalized health-preserving technologies. This new competency is aimed at the rehabilitation of patients after stroke.

Industrial partners—physicians from the Republican Clinical Hospital—served as judges, not only evaluating the participants but also actively helping the students hone their skills for the championship.

According to Liana Umarova, a support specialist for the championship, mini exercise bikes, lymphatic drainage massagers, and blood pressure monitors with ECG functionality were purchased for the new «Personalized Health-Saving Technologies» platform.

«With this device, patients can not only measure their blood pressure but also track their heartbeat at home. This blood pressure monitor easily connects to a smartphone, allowing them to communicate the necessary medical information to a therapist without leaving home,» Umarova explained.
The experts, in turn, noted that they had already identified several participants who had demonstrated outstanding performance in specific competencies for subsequent employment. This is logical: graduates of the KBSU College of Medicine are traditionally in high demand in the labor market, as confirmed by statistics.

Third-year student Darina Kasimova competed in the «Personalized Health-Saving Technologies» competency. She admitted she was nervous at first, but then calmed down and confidently took on the task, which involved the step-by-step rehabilitation of a stroke survivor.

«I examined the patient who had been admitted with complaints, thoroughly investigated all the details, and developed a rehabilitation plan. The experts noted that I did everything correctly, which I am very happy about. Participating in the championship gave me invaluable experience,» Darina shared.
Another participant, Alikhan Alakayev, a third-year student majoring in General Medicine, competed in one of the most complex and extensive skills, which included five sections. He had to examine the patient, identify existing wounds, and provide first aid within a limited time. According to the jury, the future paramedic handled the task brilliantly.

«According to the legend, in the first case, a patient was admitted with an open fracture, then with a ruptured spleen, and there was also a patient with burns on both hands. We had to perform all the actions on the mannequin strictly according to the rules: from hand hygiene to full wound care. Each step had to be practiced until it was automatic to avoid mistakes and provide the patient with the highest quality care. «I think I did it—the patient’s condition improved,» Alikhan modestly commented, adding that the skills he acquired at the championship would definitely be useful in his future work as a paramedic.
Yasmina Lampezheva, in the Obstetrics category, successfully demonstrated her skills by delivering a simulated birth.

«The simulated father was incredibly happy with his son and named him Rasul—after one of the doctors,» Yasmina said with a laugh, commenting on her colleagues’ actions during the emergency surgery, which ended successfully. Then, she continued seriously, adding that she had gained valuable experience during the championship, learning how to act correctly in critical situations.
The results of the February stage will be announced at the end of the month. The winners will receive a ticket to the next interregional stage of the championship, which will be held from March 30 to April 30, 2026.

The best participants will have the opportunity to complete an internship or receive a job offer at partner companies in the region.
