Popular science lecture hall for schoolchildren started at KBSU

February 27 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov started university Saturdays for schoolchildren at the Institute of Chemistry and Biology.

About 30 high school students of the republic’s schools attended the popular science lecture of the head of the department of biology, geoecology and molecular genetic foundations of living systems, candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Anzor Paritov «On the origin of man».

The materials of the interactive presentation demonstrated the achievements of paleoanthropology, paleogenetics, archeology over the past 15 years, which have radically changed the knowledge and ideas about our ancestors. The lecturer noted that many types of people lived at the same time and could interact with each other.

The second part of the lecture was devoted to the biological characteristics of human evolution, the process of assimilation of different species. Using the data of genetics and molecular biology as an example, Anzor Paritov explained the process of brain enlargement, highlighted the most important stages of human development. Among the factors of anthropogenesis, the lecturer highlighted the influence of social intelligence, dopamine, sexual selection, etc., and also drew the attention of the audience to the fact that the anatomy of a modern type of human has unique features that have appeared in the course of evolution, for example, the structure of the spine, hand, feet, which contributed to his victory over other types of people.

The KBSU teacher gave interesting facts from the life of people from Dmanisi (Georgia) and a Denisovan man from Altai.

The schoolchildren listened to the lecture with great interest, asked many questions, to which they received comprehensive answers.

On March 27, everyone who loves the science of chemistry will be able to listen to a fascinating lecture by the head of the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the KBSU, Doctor of Chemistry, Professor Hasbi Kushkhov on the topic «Chemistry on the Threshold of the III Millennium.»
