Over 500 people tested their knowledge of their native Kabardian language at KBSU

Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov became one of the platforms of the VI International educational campaign “Adyghe dictation”, dedicated to the Day of the Adyghe language and writing. At KBSU, over 500 people tested their knowledge of their native language.

The organizers of the total dictation in the Adyghe languages were the Union of Public Associations “International Circassian Association for the unity of the Circassian people, the development of ties between the Circassian diaspora and their historical homeland”, Kabardino-Balkarian State University, Adyghe State University.

The purpose of the dictation is to increase literacy in the Adyghe (Circassian) language and popularize the native language as a means of communication, preserving the traditional culture and ethnic identity of the Adyghe people.

At KBSU, an educational event brought together teachers, students and everyone who expressed a desire to take part in it. Among the guests of honor were the President of the International Circassian Association, Khauti Sokhrokov, and the Minister of Nationalities and Public Projects of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Anzor Kurashinov.

Welcoming the participants of the action, Khauti Sokhrokov noted how important it is to know your native language:

“Knowledge of your native language helps you not to get lost in the world’s diversity of languages, support national culture and art, and improve the system of training and education. Today, publications are published in the Adyghe language in different countries: Turkey, Syria, Israel, Jordan, etc. This means that the Circassians living in these countries do not want to forget their culture, their traditions and spiritual values.
The world is constantly changing, many nations are integrating. And the Circassians are also subject to this process. But still, we must preserve our rich history, unique language, unshakable traditions and customs so that our further development is not interrupted.”

And about. First Vice-Rector of KBSU Murat Gukepshokov expressed gratitude to the students for their interest and love for the Kabardian language, which was instilled in them primarily by their parents, and congratulated everyone present on the upcoming holiday — the Day of the Adyghe (Circassian) Language.

Director of the Center for Adyghe Culture of KBSU named after. A. A. Tsipinova Madina Ezaova explained that the text of the dictation includes about 200 words. An excerpt from the book “Circassians and Circassian Etiquette” by Ali Cherkesov and Mukhamed Khakunov entitled “Adyghe Family” was chosen to commemorate the Year of the Family. The text was read by Milana Molova, a 4th year student at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities.

“Milana is not only an excellent student, she speaks the Kabardian language well, but she is already taking her first steps in the profession — she works as a teacher at the Nartanovsk secondary school,”
– said Madina Ezaova.

Let us note that the Adyghe dictation could also be written on offline platforms organized in schools, universities, colleges, and libraries in cities and regions of the republic.

In Nalchik, in addition to KBSU, the main online platforms were the Kabardino-Balkarian State Agrarian University named after V.M. Kokov, the State National Library of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic named after T.K. Malbakhov.

The educational campaign “Adyge Dictation” was also held in Karachay-Cherkessia and Adygea. And representatives of the Circassian diaspora abroad could participate in it online.

Participants in the dictation can familiarize themselves with the results from the organizers on the fifth day after it is held. Electronic certificates from the ICA will be sent to all interested experts.
