One of the classrooms at the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of KBSU now bears the name of Academician Vladimir Fortov
At the opening ceremony of the auditorium rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov noted the significant contribution of the outstanding scientist, physicist-reformer to the development of the university.
I personally knew Vladimir Evgenievich Fortov, who always supported our endeavors, and met with him several times at the Academy of Sciences and within the university. He did a lot for Kabardino-Balkaria, for Russia as a whole in the field of development of nuclear physics. Supervised young scientists, admonished the guys who chose the path of science for themselves. He actively participated in organizing and conducting scientific conferences, was the head of the laboratory of physics of extreme states and at one time supported the idea of creating a basic department of physics for training personnel for the Baksan Neutrino Observatory,

Vladimir Fortov was an honorary professor at KBSU and a member of the university’s board of trustees. The opening of an auditorium named after Fortov is a sign of respect for his legacy as a scientist and a person. His name was also given to one of the mountains of the Main Caucasus Range, as a full holder of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
An outstanding Russian scientist who headed the Russian Academy of Sciences died at the age of 74. Over the years of his scientific activity, he became the author of more than 900 scientific papers and 30 monographs, translated into many foreign languages.
