On the prospect of creating a military training center at KBSU

The Joint Commission of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation assessed the prospects for creating a military training center at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov. For more than 40 years (until 2010), a specialized structural unit operated at the university — first the military department, then the faculty. During this period, thousands of officers were trained, who honorably fulfilled their duty to the Motherland, many were awarded military awards, the press service of the university explained. Subsequently, the leadership of KBSU took the initiative to resume activities in this area.

In November 2019, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the creation of military training centers at a number of universities to train specialists in popular areas of activity of the Armed Forces. An appeal was sent to the Ministry of Defense with a request to consider the possibility of opening such a center on the basis of KBSU, where about 18,000 students study. One of the leading universities in the North Caucasus, a participant in the program of academic strategic leadership «Priority 2030» meets the modern requirements of educational policy. Acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov explained:

There are all the necessary educational, informational, material and technical resources, buildings and structures, as well as specialized educational and scientific bases that meet international standards. Including a unique object — the Elbrus educational and scientific complex of KBSU. We proposed several sites for the consideration of the commission for the placement of a military training center, according to the results of the work, the most appropriate to the requirements was chosen. A plan of the main activities for the formation of this structural unit of the university has been drawn up, we are ready to submit this document to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for consideration for making an appropriate decision.
