«Mountain People» of KBSU hiked to Aktoprak Pass
Members of the youth club of the Russian Geographical Society «Mountain People», operating on the basis of the Institute of Management, Tourism and Hospitality Industry of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, made a hike to the Aktoprak pass.
It is located between the Baksan and Chegem Gorges at an altitude of 1945 meters. In Soviet times, the famous film «Sannikov Land» was filmed here.
If you recall ancient history, it is believed that in the distant 1395, Tamerlane’s troops, pursuing Khan Tokhtamysh, passed through Aktoprak to the Baksan Gorge. There, on the site of the current village of Bylym, a bloody battle took place in which Tamerlane won an important victory for him. This is mentioned in the ancient chronicle «The Book of Victories» by Sheref ad Din ali Yezidi.
The path of the hikers passed in the area of the picturesque Rocky Ridge. At the end of the route, they unfurled the flag of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
The hike to the Aktoprak Pass was carried out as part of the educational program of the IMTIG KBSU together with the youth tourist center «Vershina» and the Ministry of Youth of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. It was timed to coincide with the Statehood Day of the Republic.
