Release date: 07.10.2022

October 3, 2022 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov teachers and students of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design celebrated their professional holiday — the Day of the Architects.

The head of the department «Architectural design, design and DPI» IACD KBSU Hazret Guketlov told the freshmen about the history of the holiday, which originated in 1985, when the World Day of Architecture — July 1, was established at the meeting of the International Union of Architects.

«In 1996, at the XX General Assembly of the UIA, held in Barcelona, the holiday was moved to the first Monday in October. Thus, it turned out to be connected with the World Habitat Day, which is dedicated to living conditions in settlements», — Hazret Guketlov explained.

The fact that an architect is one of the most ancient and at the same time always the most sought-after professions was proved by striking examples of Valery Huranov, Associate Professor of the Department of Architectural Design, Design and DPI, KBSU IACD:

«Looking at the buildings in the city, we don’t think who they were designed. But each of them has its own creator. History keeps the names of architects, starting from Ancient Egypt and Rome, and their projects have become monuments to eras. We admire palaces, castles and cathedrals. Architecture is both the art and the science of designing and building buildings. Also, this concept refers to the very set of buildings and structures. It combines three facets: functional, technical and aesthetic. The Roman architect Vitruvius described the three qualities of architecture as follows: Durability, Usefulness, Beauty. Above all, each building must fit into the environment. Architects take care of all this».

It was interesting for future specialists to learn about the practical implementation of architectural solutions from the experience of the current urban planner, which is the senior lecturer of the Department of Architectural Design, Design and DPI of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design, the founder of the ADDA Architecture & Design studio Alim Dugulubgov. He has more than 50 completed projects in his treasury of achievements.

«The architect is the one who has full responsibility for the project, and he must be sure of every millimeter of his design decision. In our studio we are engaged in architectural design. We have been in Nalchik for the third year, but during this time a lot of work has been done. Among the implemented projects of architectural interest, executed with a creative approach, are a cultural and recreational building in the center of Chegem, a ten-story apartment building in Baksan, and a number of private houses around the city. With each implemented project, there are more and more clients», — shared Alim Dugulubgov.

The architect told the students about working with clients, noting that it is often necessary to convince clients of the fairness of their decisions.

«Be confident in your project and convince the customer that your creative solution is the right one. «Infect» him with your idea. When describing the details, be more precise in the wording, laconic. Nevertheless, be prepared to explain all the details of interest. Bring graphic material, sketches, sketches, sketches to meetings, show samples of materials. Show diplomacy, consult with the client, involve him in making this or that decision» — these are the recommendations the students received from the current architect.

Some 4 years will pass, and the first-year students of IACD will themselves become professionals, keeping several interesting drawings of architectural masterpieces in tubes. In support of this, Adel Badzhmuk, a master student of IACD, demonstrated to the beginners his final work “Hotel in the Elbrus region”, which already before the exam found its customer. At the end of the meeting, Hazret Guketlov wished the students of the architectural direction success in their studies and creative inspiration.
