Administration of KBSU meeting foreign students
November 1, 2022 at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov held a meeting of the university administration with foreign students, during which a wide range of pressing issues and ways to solve them were discussed.
Currently, more than 18,000 students from 48 regions of Russia (more than 50% of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation) and 45 foreign countries (more than 20% of the world’s countries) are studying at KBSU. Since 2015, the number of foreign students has increased by 3.2 times and currently exceeds 2,000 people. The main contribution to the work on attracting foreign students from India, Egypt, Jordan, Syria and other countries is made by two educational units of KBSU, which carry out educational activities at the level of higher education in medical areas of training (specialties) — the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Dentistry and the Maxillofacial surgery.
Rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov, noting that the educational activities of foreign students is an element of the successful development of the university, commented on the purpose of the event:
“We pay great attention to the quality of education, your participation in research work. We hope that if you decide to stay and work in our country, you will be able to make a significant contribution to its development. During the educational process, you have various issues that need to be addressed.”
The head of the university expressed concern about the debt that some foreign students have under a contract for the provision of paid educational services by the university. Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Ismail Miziev explained to those present that back in April, due to the suspension of operations in Russia by international payment systems, the leadership of the university decided not to require foreign students to pay until the new academic year, but November had already come, and the issue was not closed. The dean of the medical faculty noted that during this period there was not a single expulsion of foreign students.
The discussion of these and other issues was attended by acting. First Vice-Rector — Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Vadim Lesev, acting vice-rector for strategic development and international relations Hussein Kushkhov, deputy director of the campus for work with foreign students Elena Sherieva and other specialists. A brilliant translation from English was provided by Asiyat Zhurtova, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Language and General Education for Foreign Students.
Yuri Altudov recommended that foreign students, on all issues requiring the assistance of the university administration, contact the curators of study groups, the directorate of their educational unit, or vice-rectors. He proposed to the youth policy department of KBSU to organize volunteer assistance for foreign students in adapting to the realities of our region and the university. He promised foreign students to bring to the relevant institutions a request for simplification of official procedures.
“It is necessary to build a more efficient system of interaction between students and the administration of the university”, — the head of the university emphasized.
Summing up the results of the meeting, Yuri Altudov said:
“I thank you for the frank conversation. We listened to you attentively and will try to do everything within our competence to make your stay in Russia, in Kabardino-Balkaria more comfortable, and study at the university as effective as possible.”
