KBSU will hold an international cross-disciplinary conference on medicine
September 15-18 at the Elbrus educational and scientific complex of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov in the village of Elbrus, within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia, the International Scientific and Practical Conference «Fundamental Science for Practical Medicine: Additive Technologies, Modern Materials and Physical Methods in Medicine» will be held.
The first conference dedicated to the issues of reconstructive surgery using additive technologies was held in 2019 in Nalchik and attracted more than 200 listeners, however, many issues still require clarification and discussion, in connection with which the idea of holding a second cross-disciplinary conference was supported by the Ministry Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Scientific Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology, National Research Technological University «MISIS», National Medical Research Center for Neurosurgery named after N.N. Burdenko, National Medical Research Center named after V.A. Almazov and the Russian Scientific Research Institute named after A.L. Polenov.
“With the advent of digital prototyping and the development of additive technologies in medicine, not only the manufacture of individual implants, but also the detailed planning of the surgery itself has become possible,” the acting director is convinced. Vice-rector for research at KBSU, professor Svetlana Khashirova.
“Mathematical modeling of injuries and deformations of organs, the development of polymer phantoms and experimental models is acquiring practical significance.
These technologies are most widely demanded in traumatology and orthopedics, neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery, oncology and tissue engineering, dentistry. In the overwhelming majority, these are expensive types of treatment that involve the use of expensive imported equipment.
Russian researchers are faced with an extremely important task — the development and implementation of their own technologies. Today, individual laboratories and factories are represented locally, with unique experience in individual issues.
The uniqueness of this event lies in the fact that it involves a multidisciplinary approach and active interaction between scientists of various specialties and medical practitioners. The issues of the future development of this area in the Russian Federation will be discussed, the tasks of restorative reconstructive medicine will be formulated with an emphasis on a personalized approach,” — said Svetlana Khashirova.
The conference program includes a plenary session, which will discuss the general state of the industry with the indication of the needs for materials and technologies, work in seven thematic sections, a poster session and a strategic session, which will develop specific proposals for the industry, manufacturers of materials and products, standardization organizations and implementation. It is also planned to sign cooperation agreements.
