KBSU summed up the results of 2023
The results of the year were discussed at the next meeting of the Academic Council of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, held on December 21.
First of all and. O. KBSU Rector Yuri Altudov fulfilled a pleasant mission by presenting federal and republican departmental certificates and gratitude to the most distinguished employees of the university. Thus, the gratitude of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for his contribution to the development of educational activities and youth policy was announced to the head of the department for youth policy and educational work of KBSU, Khyzyr Mashukov. The head of the department of Russian language and general linguistics of the SGI KBSU, Svetlana Bashieva, received a certificate of honor from the Government of the KBR for her contribution to the development of the education system of the republic. A certificate of honor from the Ministry of Education and Science of the KBR was awarded to Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Chemical Ecology Larisa Grineva. Gratitude from the management of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation for cooperation in the successful implementation of the socio-cultural project “My Motherland: Big and Small” was announced to Zarema Nakhusheva. And Associate Professor of the Department of Faculty and Endoscopic Surgery at the Medical Academy of KBSU, Murat Makhov, received congratulations on being awarded the Prize of the Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in the field of science and innovation for young scientists.
Meanwhile, the head of the university was awarded a Diploma from the independent rating agency “RAEKS-ANALYTICS” for his contribution to the sustainable development of Russian universities, as well as a Gratitude from the leadership of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation for cooperation in the successful implementation of the socio-cultural project “My Motherland: Big and Small”.
Further and. O. KBSU Rector Yuri Altudov addressed the members of the Academic Council with a report on the work done over the year and information on the most important tasks facing the university.
The head of the university noted that the KBSU Development Program for the next decade is aimed at ensuring the availability of high-quality higher and secondary education, increasing the university’s contribution to the development of the region and the country as part of the implementation of the strategic academic leadership program “Priority 2030”, the National Technology Initiative, the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. These target indicators are structure-forming for the university for the next decade.
“The main thing here is the transformation of all processes at the university, aimed at maximizing the scientific and educational potential of the university for the rapid development of the region, the formation of progressive, competitive human capital,” explained Yuri Altudov.
Yuri Altudov emphasized that in 2023 the university confirmed its high status in the Russian and international higher education systems, as evidenced by the results of a number of independent and authoritative rankings.
“KBSU is included in the Top 100 national rankings of Russian universities and, according to certain indicators, holds a leading position among universities in the North Caucasus Federal District. It ranks 57th in the national ranking of universities according to Interfax, and 93rd in the ranking of the best universities in Russia — 2023 according to RAEX. At the end of 2023, the university improved its position in the rankings in the natural, mathematical and engineering areas of RAEX.
In 2023, the university is included in the rankings of the best universities in the world: the Moscow international ranking “Three Missions of the University” and the THE ranking, which evaluates universities according to the UN sustainable development goals,” noted the head of the university.
Work continued to modernize the university management system. Result: a matrix management structure has been introduced, which is based on the principle of double subordination of personnel — along a vertical administrative line and a horizontal project one, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of solving assigned tasks. As part of the matrix structure, the university switched to a project management method.
Speaking about the implementation of the university’s educational policy, Yuri Altudov first of all called the 2023 admissions campaign successful. Thanks to thoughtful career guidance work and the well-coordinated work of the admissions committee, 6,606 people were enrolled at KBSU this year, which is 10% more than in 2022. The average score of those enrolled in budget places in 2023 was 66.85 points, which is 0.7% higher than the value in 2022.
In 2023, 661 foreign citizens were enrolled, which is 4 times more than in 2022. Today, KBSU has about 20 thousand students, including more than 2,300 foreigners.
2023 By Decree of the President of Russia V.V. Putin has been declared the Year of the Teacher and Mentor. Particular attention is paid to the recognition of the special status of teaching staff, including those performing mentoring activities. This confirms the importance for society of the humanistic mission that underlies the profession. The events of the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, held within the walls of our university, were aimed at increasing the prestige of the teaching profession.
The university is making a great work to create an inclusive culture aimed at improving the quality of life of students with disabilities and disabilities, noted the head of the university. In total, 564 students with disabilities and limited health opportunities study at KBSU. 68% of disabled students and persons with disabilities are enrolled in HE programs and 32% in secondary vocational education. The university holds educational seminars for first-year students on inclusive ethics (more than 200 people), advanced training courses for KBSU employees (94 people in 2023) and students (31 people), and other cultural, educational and career guidance events.
For the first time, a video passport of KBSU accessibility was developed and posted on the website. Work is nearing completion on the development and implementation of online courses in adaptation disciplines for students with disabilities and disabilities.
KBSU became a platform for holding a regional championship in professional skills among disabled people and persons with disabilities “Abilimpix” in 4 competencies: adaptive physical education (held for the first time), database administration; web designer and primary school teacher.
7 KBSU students, 2 of them with disabilities and disabilities, took part in the All-Russian network competition of student projects “Professional Tomorrow”, three of them reached the finals of the federal competition.
A student of the Pedagogical College took part in the All-Russian Sign Language Festival “Don’t Be Silent” for the first time, received a diploma and a special prize from the NCFU RUMC. The project “Psychological and Pedagogical Society “Atmosphere” received a grant in the amount of 800,000 rubles in the “Share Experience” nomination.
The university annually increases its consolidated budget and increases development costs. In accordance with the roadmap, the university fulfills all social obligations to the team of teachers, staff and students.
“We have also become involved in the processes of digital transformation and modernization of human capital management, aimed at improving the quality of basic processes and management processes at the university. Key objectives include attracting young people to the field of research and popularizing scientific knowledge. This work is of utmost importance within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology,” noted Yuri Altudov.
As part of the digital transformation of the university, KBSU has introduced a digital career environment, which contains more than 12,000 digital profiles of university students (coverage — more than 73%), more than 800 active personnel partners (of which more than 200 are regional), more than 3,300 current vacancies, of which over 220 are regional. According to the monitoring results, the share of employed graduates of higher education in 2022 is 78.6%.
Additional professional education is successfully developing. At “PriorityFest” 2023, according to the criterion “Involvement of teachers in the implementation of further education programs”, the university took 6th place among universities participating in the “Priority 2030” program. And in terms of income from additional professional training, the university is among the top 10 leaders.
The research policy of the university, Yuri Altudov reported, is focused on the following growth vectors: advanced materials and additive technologies, neutrino physics (astrophysics of particles), hydrogen technologies, information technologies, medicine, genetics, tourism, cultural heritage and social development of the North Caucasus. Thanks to the active participation of university employees in competitions and grants, this year the university was included in a number of federal projects.
In 2023, 55 patents and 46 certificates for computer programs were received, the university received 1 more Eurasian patent in the reporting year. In general, the increase in RIA at the end of the year relative to 2022 was 44%. The priority in this work is to learn how to commercialize the potential of patents. KBSU is a venue for all-Russian and international symposia and conferences. In 2023, 28 events were held, of which 8 were international and 10 were all-Russian with international participation, in which more than 5,000 people participated.
“To build up research potential, new research centers and youth laboratories were created and put into operation in the reporting year, which allowed university students to show decent results in the Student Startup competition and receive 1 million rubles each,” noted Yuri Altudov.
At the same time, the speaker noted, the number of publications indexed in the international Scopus database leaves much to be desired.
“For the successful implementation of the Priority 2030 program, as well as participation in competitions of the Russian Science Foundation and the national project Science, we will have to increase efforts to increase the number of publications, especially in the first and second quartiles,” Yuri Altudov outlined the task.
Another important aspect in terms of implementing the university’s research policy is the modernization of KBSU infrastructure. Every year, the university opens modern research laboratories, creates and improves classrooms and spaces for collective work. The territory of the university complex is being improved.
