Release date: 10.12.2023

Students of the Institute of Architecture, Construction and Design of Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov took part in the federal public educational project “Dream School”.

The project has been implemented since 2022 on the initiative of the Federal Headquarters of Public Control on the issues of capital repairs of schools and the development of school infrastructure of the Public Council under the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and with the support of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Russian Society «Knowledge».

The goal of the project is to attract talented and motivated students from specialized universities to the development of design projects for school spaces. As a result of the project, the bank of the best design solutions will be replenished, which will help modernize the educational spaces of real schools. It is also assumed that future architects and designers will be able to personally control the implementation of projects.

From November 6 to 17, as part of the project, two student expeditions took place along the routes “Moscow — Moscow Region — St. Petersburg” and “Moscow — Nizhny Novgorod — Kazan” with the support of the “Russia — Land of Opportunities” platform. Over 12 days, 25 students from 15 regions of the country visited more than 20 schools in Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan, and prepared their own design solutions for school No. 22 in Korolev near Moscow and the Skorobogatov school in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

One of the goals of the expedition is to form a community of ambassadors of a new approach to school renovation, who know modern approaches to organizing school spaces and master the principles of “participatory design.”

KBSU was represented in the expeditions by 5th year students of the Institute of Architecture and Architecture, Dzhambulat Kertiev and Temirlan Adzhiev.

“During the expedition “Moscow — Moscow Region — St. Petersburg”, under the supervision of experts, we carried out participatory design in a real school, which involved a meeting with the teaching staff of the school and students. We also took photographs and took measurements of the school premises. At the end of the expedition, we made a preliminary design project for the educational spaces of school No. 22 in the Moscow region based on the new knowledge and skills acquired. The project was assessed at a high level, and it is planned to use it as a guide for major repairs.
The “Dream School” expedition was held at the highest level. We saw the architecture of Moscow and St. Petersburg. We gained extensive experience working in a team and in designing school spaces. After the expedition I was left with unforgettable impressions, knowledge and new experiences,”

– said Temirlan Adzhiev.

“I took part in an expedition to the cities of Moscow — Nizh. Novgorod — Kazan, and we worked on a design project for the educational spaces of a school from the village of Skorobogatovo. The school director really liked the project itself. I think she saw what she wanted.
I only had positive emotions from the “Dream School” expedition. It was very interesting to study how modern schools are structured, to experience their atmosphere, to understand which design decisions are correct and which are not. I clearly began to understand and understand this topic better, so the expedition was very useful for me,”

– Dzhambulat Kertiev shared.

Natalya Kravchenko, Chairman of the Education and Training Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, leader of the “Dream School” project, noted that young architects and university designers have good basic training.

“We had the idea to involve our young architects and designers who are graduating from higher educational institutions in working with school spaces. They already have good basic training. And we can help these children gain additional knowledge and qualifications in the field of social design and school environment design,”
— Natalya Kravchenko shared.

During the educational journey, students listened to a course of lectures on modern approaches to the design of educational spaces; a large series of lectures was prepared by the creative curator of the expedition, associate professor of the department of architecture of residential and public buildings, deputy dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design of SamSTU, candidate of architecture Anna Kuznetsova.

The initiators of the project emphasize that this provides many advantages for students: the opportunity to gain both applied competencies and practice credit or academic qualifications. Universities will receive a career guidance effect in interaction with schools, as well as the opportunity to attract talented students to stay in the region.

As noted by Dzhambulat Kertiev and Temirlan Adzhiev, according to the plan of the project organizers, they are like ambassadors of the “School of Dreams”, using the experience of participating in the expedition, together with a team of students from the Institute of Automation and Culture of KBSU under the leadership of the head. By March 15, the Department of Architecture and Design Khazret Guketlov must develop design projects for the major renovation of five schools in the KBR: GBOU “KSHI No. 1” s.p. Atazhukino; MKOU «School» g.p. Kashkhatau; Municipal educational institution «Secondary school» s.p. Kishpek; Municipal educational institution «Secondary school» s.p. Lashkuta; MKOU “Lyceum No. 2” Nalchik.

From expedition and “Dream School” I only had positive emotions. It was very interesting to study how modern schools are structured, to feel their atmosphere in real life, to understand which design decisions are correct and which are not. I clearly began to understand and understand this topic better, so the expedition was very useful for me.

“We hope that we can help the regions implement the school overhaul program, and also become noticed in the professional community,”
– noted Temirlan Adzhiev.
