Release date: 03.10.2023

About 2,000 people took 10,000 steps today in Nalchik as part of the annual event “10,000 steps to life,” organized by the Medical Academy of Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov together with the Ministry of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic on the initiative of the all-Russian public organization “League of National Health”.

Traditionally, the event takes place on All-Russian Walking Day on October 1 and is timed to coincide with World Heart Day (September 29), and this time the residents of Nalchik were very lucky — both with the weather and with the friendly company of students and teachers of the KBSU Medical Academy, management and employees of the Ministry of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, medical institutions of the capital of the republic, members of the regional branch of the All-Russian movement “Medical Volunteers” and other public organizations, as well as city residents who wished to support the action and devote Sunday morning hours to their health.

At the central entrance to the Atazhukinsky Garden, at the start of the health path, the participants of the action were greeted by the Minister of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic Rustam Kalibatov:

I am very glad that there are many of you – people who have given preference to this health promotion. You all know very well about the benefits of walking, and this action is aimed at making this known to as many citizens as possible. We, as representatives of the healthcare system, clearly understand that all measures aimed at diagnosing and treating already developed diseases are not as effective as primary and secondary prevention, and this is a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, proper nutrition, as well as medical examination and preventive actions. And today you can cover both primary and secondary prevention,

– emphasized Rustam Kalibatov.

Medical institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic today re-opened a large mobile dispensary station, which worked for many summer days as part of the republican medical and preventive campaign “Check your health in the park.” At the end of the health route, at about 9,000 steps, one could turn into the medical perimeter, go through all the stages of medical examination and receive a document certified by doctors about the state of health with recommendations or an invitation to in-depth diagnostics.

Head of the Kabardino-Balkarian regional branch of the National Health League, deputy director of the Medical Academy of KBSU named after Kh.M. Berbekov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Zareta Kambachokova explained that the project “10,000 thousand steps to health” was developed and first implemented in Kabardino-Balkaria 7 years ago. He became the winner of the regional stage of the All-Russian competition “Volunteer of Russia-2017” and was supported by the All-Russian public organization “National Health League” and personally by its president Leo Bokeria, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, chief freelance specialist — cardiovascular surgeon of the Ministry of Health Russia. The action immediately caused the most positive response among the population of different age categories — from schoolchildren to pensioners. And across Russia, millions of people in more than 700 settlements take part in health-improving events.

In 2023, the event is timed to coincide with World Heart Day on the initiative of Leo Bockeria, an outstanding cardiac surgeon, inventor, organizer of medical science, and professor. An honored scientist, one of the founders of the surgical treatment of heart rhythm disorders, the author of Russia’s only manual on cardiovascular surgery, an innovator in the use of lasers and computers in heart surgery, constantly tells his patients and colleagues that a person who walks two hours a week , lives several years longer than someone who leads a sedentary lifestyle. Walking is an excellent way to prevent cardiovascular diseases, excess weight, and joint problems.
Well, who, if not the Medical Academy, should continue the work of this brilliant doctor and educator?! And we do this with pleasure and are glad that every year there are more and more participants in the action. This means that our educational mission is not in vain and we will definitely continue,

– assured Zareta Anatolyevna.

The organizers of the “10,00 steps to life” campaign in our republic in 2023 were the KBRO LLC “National Health League”, the Medical Academy of the KBSU, the Ministry of Health of the KBR, the Cardiology Center of the Ministry of Health of the KBR. Organizational support is provided by the branch of Capital Medical Insurance LLC in the KBR.

According to the classification of physical activity of healthy people adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO), if a person takes less than 5,000 steps a day, his lifestyle is characterized as “sedentary” with all the negative consequences for the health of the heart and blood vessels, and the whole body as a whole. Experts call 5,000 to 7,499 steps per day an “ineffective” level. Up to 10 thousand steps – “partially active”, and more than that – “active”. Based on this, one of the simplest options for physical activity that preserves health for a long time is to walk about 10 thousand steps a day. That is, traveling on foot for a total of about one and a half hours.

Let’s hope that all participants in the “10,00 Steps to Life” campaign received a wonderful charge of vivacity and good mood for the entire upcoming work week, as well as healthy motivation for the rest of their long lives.
