KBSU student from India More Nishtha Nitin gave an interview to RIA «Kabardino-Balkaria»
On January 25, our country celebrated Russian Students’ Day. On the eve of the holiday, a student of the Medical Academy of Kabardino-Balkarian State University from India More Nishtha Nitin gave an interview to RIA «Kabardino-Balkaria».
She shared with the correspondent her impressions of studying at the university and Kabardino-Balkaria, in particular.
Among other students of the medical program from India, Nishtha came to Kabardino-Balkaria more than three years ago; today the 23-year-old student is a fourth-year student. She said that she is originally from Maharashtra, a state with its capital in Mumbai, which is the financial and commercial center of India. The girl admitted that she always dreamed of becoming a doctor, the course of study at the medical academy is designed for six years, which means that in two years she will finally be able to pick up a stethoscope. Nishtha’s family supports her desire to become a doctor. Her father, More Nitin Hari, has a printing business, her mother, More Suvarna Nitin, is a high school teacher, and her younger brother, More Shriyog Nitin, is studying computer science and engineering. «Nishtha» in Hindu philosophy means faith, steadfastness and devotion. This is what her uncle named the girl, thereby defining her inner core.
Students from India, like other foreign students, live in the university dormitory. Nishtha says that studying to be a doctor is a big responsibility, when studying medicine, each subject seems difficult, but it all depends on how you look at the discipline being studied. When she encounters a new subject, she temporarily creates in her mind the clinical condition of the potential patient who will come to her with the symptoms she reads about. According to the student, this method makes studying the topic more interesting.
Of course, the girl misses her home and her family very much, where she returns once a year during the summer holidays. These feelings are especially vivid on important family dates or when she experiences difficulties. However, the future doctor views this experience as an opportunity for personal growth and development. Staying away from home taught her to be more independent and strengthened her communication skills. She communicates with her family through regular phone calls and messages.
Asiyat Zhurtova, director of the Higher School of International Education at KBSU and curator of the India community, said that today 665 Indian students are studying at KBSU out of a total of 2,503 foreign students. All students from India study at the Medical Academy with English included. These students are involved in all events held at the university as part of the academic, scientific, educational, youth and social programs. She voiced good news — these days, the graduates of the Academy of 2024 successfully passed exams to confirm their diploma of higher medical education abroad, the guys showed some of the highest results. The director of the Higher School of Medical Education noted that it is very gratifying when our graduates remember us far from Russia, send messages with words of gratitude to the university, teachers and curators.
Our heroine treats the difficulties that, one way or another, students studying far from home face philosophically, with a sense of humor.
I believe that it is this experience that will ultimately improve my ability to empathize with patients of different origins in my future medical practice, — says the girl. – I would like to mention our curators who provide us with comprehensive assistance. They are the director of the Higher School of International Education at KBSU, the curator of the India community Asiyat Zhurtova, the deputy director of the KBSU campus for foreign students, the curator of the India community Elena Sherieva and the deputy director of the medical academy for foreign students Liliya Alafi, as well as other teachers who support us every day, like parents.
When asked what the main difference is between Russia and India, the girl answered that it is the fairly low air temperature in the cold season, while in their homeland they are used to living in a hotter climate. However, Nishtha says that they live well in Kabardino-Balkaria, the climate is generally good, the city is surrounded by mountains, which she loves very much, friendly, pleasant people. The girl also noted certain similarities in such distant and, it would seem, different countries.
Indians and Russians are aware of and emphasize the importance of family values and the culture of their country. I love tea and it turns out that this drink is popular in both countries. People here love Indian music and watch Bollywood movies, and know our actors. Both cultures celebrate various holidays and festivals with great enthusiasm. For example, the Diwali festival is of great importance to us, and here at the university our teachers and students from different countries also take an active part in its celebration. I really like the national culture of the Kabardians and Balkars, their ethnic costumes are amazing, I would like to know more about all this. Since I am a quiet person, I do not like to talk much, make noise and fuss, in my free time from classes, as a rule, I am in my comfort zone, in the hostel room. Perhaps that is why I do not have as many friends as I would like. However, I try to attend festivals, exhibitions and holidays regularly. Over the years of studying in Kabardino-Balkaria, I have many wonderful impressions and memories, but perhaps the most vivid of them was our trip to Elbrus region for my birthday last year. On January 1, 2024, our bus left Nalchik, and even the cold weather did not prevent us from skiing, contemplating the height of the mountains and enjoying ourselves. And last but not least, I want to wish you all with the words of a beautiful Sanskrit shloka: «May everyone be happy. May everyone be free from diseases. May everyone see what is favorable for him. May no one suffer in any way.” In the spirit of Indian culture, I wish you peace, prosperity and joy. May your life’s journey be filled with the warmth of love, the light of wisdom and the strength of unity. Just as the various threads of a tapestry come together to form a beautiful drapery, may your experiences and relationships enrich your life in countless ways. Shanti!
