KBSU Speaks About Struggle Against HIV Infection

May 16, on the eve of the World Day of Remembrance of the Victims of AIDS, in the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov hosted a meeting of students with the therapist of the outpatient department of the Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the KBR Marina Khakunova.
Calling on young people for a healthy lifestyle and responsible attitude to their health, a doctor with many years of experience noted that the fight against AIDS is impossible without observing the elementary rules of precaution.
«Sometimes you want to go out into the street and say to everyone and everyone: “People, be careful!”
— the doctor spoke with pain.
During the conversation, the therapist led frightening statistics. To date, 995 HIV-infected people are observed in the Center. In 2019 alone, 90 patients were identified in the CBD. Registered are 19 children with a confirmed diagnosis. All these people take life-long antiviral drugs that block the disease in order to prevent it from developing into AIDS, which occurs at the very end of the disease and invariably leads to a tragic end. There are currently no medications that could defeat the HIV virus.
The doctor recalled that there are three main ways of HIV transmission: sexually, through the blood and from mother to newborn. And you can become infected with a single injection, with one accidental unprotected sexual contact.
Miracles do not happen. It is impossible to do what you want without thinking, always come the consequences of our actions. For all the mistakes you have to pay at times a very expensive price! Take care of yourself and your loved ones,
— Marina Khakunova addressed to the students.
Young people received from the doctor a lot of useful information and comprehensive answers to all questions.
“Is it possible to get infected with a kiss?” The guys asked. The doctor replied that it is rare, but possible, if there are open bleeding wounds in the mouth.
“Are mosquitoes a source of infection?” — “No. Mosquitoes tolerate only malaria. ”
“If an HIV-infected person takes all the necessary medications, strictly fulfills the doctor’s prescription, how long can he live?” — “You can live a long and full life if the virus is detected at an early stage of infection. In general, believe me, we are fighting for each patient. Until the end».
“Is there a chance of catching blood transfusions in the hospital?” During a manicure, pedicure? When dentistry? What is the probability of guilt of doctors? «-» In general, in our republic there were no such cases. Disposable instruments are used in hospitals. Donated blood is quarantined, i.e., aged for six months from the date of submission, in order to rule out the presence of HIV infection. As for visiting beauty salons, be careful. See how the master works, sterilizing tools. Feel free to make comments if you are not satisfied with something. ”
At the end of the meeting, the students thanked Marina Khakunova for the informative conversation.
