KBSU scientists can obtain patents 2 times faster

New electronic systems introduced by the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of Russia and used by the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) of the regions made it possible to reduce the patenting time by 2 times. On January 17, 2021, the provisions of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation entered into force, giving Rospatent the authority to digitize the process of issuing titles of protection confirming exclusive rights to inventions, utility models, industrial designs, computer programs and technologies, trademarks, and so on. The new electronic systems AWP «Registrar» and the personal account of the applicant for filing applications for intellectual property objects for registration of patent and copyrights allow to shorten the time for obtaining results.

So, for example, if the consideration of one application for an invention on a traditional paper medium takes about 3 years, then the electronic document circulation has reduced this time to 18 months, the registration of a utility model will take 6 months instead of 12 months, and now to obtain copyright for a computer, database, TIMS you can do it in a month.

And thanks to the preferences of the Center for Support of Technologies and Innovations of KBSU, the state duty on registration of title of protection by Rospatent is reduced by 30%. Moreover, the TISC of the university assumes the registration of application documents and the costs of their examination.

A number of university researchers took advantage of this opportunity: on January 19, with the help of specialists from the TISC KBSU, they submitted applications for registration of copyright for electronic manuals, and on January 27, Rospatent received certificates of the established form in electronic form (Certificate of Computer No. 2021611405 Electronic manual «Anthropology of Death Peoples of the North Caucasus. “Along with a patent or a certificate in the form of an electronic document, a patent or a certificate on paper will be issued,” explained Maryana Marzhokhova, head of the KBSU TISC. — The average volume of patenting for the results of intellectual activity, including objects of patent law (inventions, utility models) and obtaining certificates for computers, databases and topologies of integrated circuits is 60 units. We expect that the digitalization of the registration and issuance of titles of protection will significantly raise the level of inventive activity of KBSU».
