KBSU remembered the «tuning fork of intelligence and high art» of Yuri Temirkanov
He conducted not notes, but meanings — an evening in memory of one of the best conductors of our time, artistic director of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the oldest orchestra in the country and one of the best in the world, People’s Artist of the USSR, honorary citizen of St. Petersburg and the pride of Kabardino-Balkaria Yuri Temirkanov was held at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov.
November 2 marks exactly one year since the great maestro passed away. Cultural figures, representatives of government bodies and public organizations, teachers and students of KBSU gathered to pay tribute to his talent in the cultural center named after his father.
Among the guests were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of KBSU, President of the International Circassian Association Khauti Sokhrokov, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic Boris Zumakulov, the Chairman of the Union of Composers of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, Honored Artist of Russia Dzhambrail Khaupa, composer, pianist, member of the Union of Composers of Russia Murat Kabardokov, the chief conductor of the Kabardino-Balkarian State Philharmonic named after B.Kh. Temirkanov, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Pyotr Temirkanov.
The evening was opened by the Acting Rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov:
Today we have gathered to honor the memory of our outstanding fellow countryman, whose name is known throughout the world — Yuri Khatuevich Temirkanov. It is very difficult to talk about him in the past tense. Yuri Temirkanov loved his small homeland, his language, national culture. We were infinitely happy when he visited our university. It seems that just recently he was here, in this hall, talking to us, joking and expressing many wise thoughts. In addition to music, he had another passion in his life — reading. He was a very well-read person. And talking to him was a special pleasure. Today we will hear the memories of his friends.
Khauti Sokhrokov noted that Yuri Temirkanov, with all his titles and merits, was a modest, simple person, but at the same time he could be harsh and tough, regardless of rank. As a thirteen-year-old teenager, he went to study in the northern capital, went through a large school of excellent teachers and became a great maestro only thanks to his teachers who believed in him. He was equally respected and loved in all corners of the world where true classical music is appreciated.
According to Dzhabrail Khaupa, people like Yuri Temirkanov are not born often. They are geniuses, their talent is unique. Addressing the younger generation, the composer urged them to tirelessly acquire knowledge. Because knowledge is the real wealth that helps a person find his purpose, realize himself in life.
Boris Zumakulov recalled how reverently the Temirkanov brothers Boris and Yuri treated each other, how sacredly the code of Adyghe honor — adyge khabze — was observed in their family.
We should be proud that the land of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Kabardian people gave the world Yuri Temirkanov. As Dzhabrail Khaupa said, unfortunately, people are mortal, but the name of a person who left good deeds and actions to descendants is immortal. Yuri Temirkanov is one of those who, having gone into eternity, forever remained in the memory of people who value music and art,
— the ombudsman said.
Murat Kabardokov said that he was lucky enough to attend a concert of Yuri Temirkanov and it was unforgettable. The famous composer advised the young audience to listen to music performed by the famous conductor more often, because this is a memory that should be passed on from generation to generation.
The representative of the Temirkanov family Petr Temirkanov thanked the acting rector of KBSU, Yuri Altudov, for his respectful attitude to the memory of the great maestro and his family name.
A wonderful gift for those present was the viewing of the documentary film by VGTRK KBR “One Hundred Faces of the Era. Yuri Temirkanov” – a story about his life on tour, rehearsals, and at home.
Concluding the meeting, Yuri Altudov thanked everyone present for the good memory of a man whose life was dedicated to classical music.
