During his tenure as rector Vladimir Kalimetovich Tlostanov, Kabardino-Balkarian State University was a large educational center in the region, as evidenced by the facts: 9 faculties functioned as part of KBSU, including 70 departments and educational and scientific divisions, where 8 thousand students and listeners studied in 16 specialties. 31 doctors of sciences and 324 candidates of sciences worked at the departments of the university.
The achievements of the university were adequately appreciated by the country’s leadership — Kabardino-Balkarian State University was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples.
What kind of leader Vladimir Kalimetovich was, said Marzhan Chegembaeva, who worked side by side with him for many years. According to her, he was a bright, intelligent person, in love with his work.
Pshikan Taov recalled his friend with great warmth:
«Vladimir Kalimetovich grew up in a family where the Kabardino-Adyghe traditions were respected, where the Adyge Khabze code was sacredly observed. I was always amazed at the tenderness with which he treated Father Kalimet Tutovich. He called me his younger brother. I knew him as a gentle, witty person. He was betrayed in friendship. As a rector, he was very happy if he managed to attract good specialists to the university or if a new department, a new direction was opened. He treated professors with great respect.»
A great contribution to the study of the life and work of Vladimir Tlostanov was made by the graduates of the Faculty of History and Philology of the KBSU, book publishers Victor and Maria Kotlyarov. As a result, in 2001 a book about V.K. Tlostanove «I am the one who will …». Viktor Kotlyarov shared about his work on the book and his impressions of Vladimir Kalimetovich.
I am sure that Vladimir Tlostanov was and remains the rector who made the university. When I met Tlostanov, after a while I realized what a multifaceted person he was. He knew history, literature. I read a lot and thoughtfully. It was necessary to write a book about him — in it Tlostanov is the way we knew him. We interviewed everyone who could tell about him and his fate. Vladimir Kalimetovich was one of those people who lived not for themselves, but for others. What he did will forever remain in the history of KBSU and the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic,
— says the author of the book «I am the one who will …».
All members of the KBSU Academic Council were able to take a copy of the book about the third rector of KBSU Viktor and Maria Kotlyarovs as a souvenir.
