KBSU remembered the Adyghe (Circassians) — victims of the Caucasian War
The Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov (KBSU) celebrated the 161st anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War.
May 21 is the Day of Remembrance of the Adyghe (Circassians) — victims of the Caucasian War. On the eve of this sad date, representatives of public organizations, cultural figures, teachers and students gathered at KBSU.
The program of the memorial evening began with the heartfelt composition «Istambylak1ue» (Road to Istanbul).
The hosts recalled the tragic events of the Caucasian War, which took many lives and forced thousands of Adyghe to leave their native lands. The memory of the dead was honored with a minute of silence.
The President of the International Circassian Association Khauti Sokhrokov welcomed the participants of the memorial evening. He noted that the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow for the Victims of the Caucasian War has traditionally been celebrated since 1991 in Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Adygea, as well as in many countries where the Adyghe diaspora lives.
Every year we remember the tragic pages of history associated with the war, which lasted more than a hundred years and brought much grief to our ancestors. Our duty is to draw wisdom from the past, to build the future together, strengthening the fraternal ties in our common home — Russia!
— said Khauti Sokhrokov.
The heads of the Russian and Balkar national cultural centers of KBSU Nadezhda Chaika and Ismail Beytuganov came to share the grief and pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Caucasian War. In their speeches, they emphasized that the peoples of multinational Kabardino-Balkaria live in peace and harmony, moving together towards a bright future.
The evening’s program included performances by representatives of the Adyghe culture. KBSU graduate Sakinat Gedueva heartfeltly recited Mulit Inamuko’s poem «The Old Woman Speaks to the Sea». Honored Artist of the KBR Azamat Tsavkilov performed the patriotic song «Si lepk» (My People), and young artists from the Song Theater «Amiks» delighted the audience with the composition «Russian Guy» in three languages - Kabardian, Balkarian and Russian. Jamal Teunov concluded the event with the song «Sit Birds on My Palm», glorifying kindness, beauty and peace.
The organizer of the memorial evening was the A.A. Tsipinov Adyghe Culture Center.
