Release date: 28.01.2026

Professor Svetlana Khashirova, vice-rector for Research at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the Center for Advanced Materials and Additive Technologies at KBSU, participated in the third All-Russian Forum of New Materials «AMTEXPO.»

The forum, held as part of the national project «New Materials and Chemistry,» is a key annual event in the industry. Representatives from science, business, industrial corporations, and government agencies gathered to discuss Russia’s technological sovereignty in materials science and chemical engineering. Participants shared experiences, identified strategic priorities, and explored promising developments for economic implementation.

The business program included thematic sessions on the development of the composite materials market, additive technologies, and digital materials science. Discussions also covered rare and rare-earth metals, new energy, materials science chemistry, Arctic technologies, human resources, and the application of new materials in aircraft manufacturing, transportation, and electronics.

The forum’s central event was the plenary session «Chemistry and Materials: The Foundation of Technological Leadership,» chaired by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center. The discussion was attended by heads of federal ministries and leading industrial corporations, including Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin, Director General of the State Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of the State Corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev, and others.

Svetlana Khashirova spoke at the session «Thermoplastics: Innovations for Competitiveness,» dedicated to one of the priority areas of the national project. During the discussion, experts discussed the prospects for localizing the full thermoplastics production cycle in Russia, dependence on imported key components, and material property requirements for use in the aircraft, space, and oil and gas industries. The professor presented the experience of KBSU research teams in developing and adapting thermoplastic polymers, and discussed the university’s competencies in substituting imported brands and innovative approaches to thermoplastic processing that contribute to increasing the country’s technological independence.

KBSU is an executor of the national project «New Materials and Chemistry» as part of the integrated scientific and technological project «Petrochemical Cluster» and is also included in the «UHMP and Special Polymers» production chain, approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. The university’s strategic technology project, implemented as part of the «Priority 2030» program, is dedicated to achieving the goals of the national project. «Our participation in the AMTEXPO forum is crucial not only for showcasing our achievements but also for establishing new consortia, finding customers for the university’s technologies, and understanding the mechanisms for engaging in national project activities,» noted KBSU’s Vice Rector for Research.
At the forum, Svetlana Khashirova held working meetings with the university’s key partners: Tula State University, the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds of the Kurchatov Institute, JSC Kompozit, VIAM of the Kurchatov Institute, the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics and Medicinal Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and other organizations.

The forum is organized by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, with the scientific leadership of the Kurchatov Institute. The event operator is ATOMEXPO.
