KBSU joined the All-Russian campaign «Blockade Bread»
On January 27, the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade, Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov joined the All-Russian memorial campaign «Blockade Bread».
Students and teachers came to pay tribute to the residents of besieged Leningrad, who, despite everything, sometimes at the cost of their lives, stood firm and did not surrender the city to the enemy. The fascists’ plan to starve the defenders and residents of the Northern capital collapsed.
Volunteers offered the participants of the campaign pieces of black bread weighing 125 grams. This was the ration that every city dweller was entitled to during the blockade and became a symbol of the tragedy that lasted almost 900 days.
Today, our country celebrates the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad. The memorial date is intended not only to perpetuate historical memory, but also to cultivate respect for the heroism of the people who survived these terrible days. To feel the depth of the tragedy of the residents of besieged Leningrad today, it is enough to look at this slice of black bread. After all, it is catastrophically little! But they stood firm and will forever remain an example of courage, fortitude and unbending faith in victory,
— said the head of the center for civic-patriotic education of youth at KBSU, German Shevchuk.
As part of the campaign, volunteers also distributed leaflets with important information about the siege of Leningrad.
Foreign students did not remain on the sidelines either. They listened with interest to the stories of volunteers and, despite the differences in cultures and historical contexts, felt a connection with those who survived the horror of the siege.
Although I am from Sudan, the courage of the residents of besieged Leningrad inspires me. This is a reminder that even in the darkest times, hope and resilience can overcome any difficulties. We must learn from these harsh lessons and appreciate the world we have, — shared his impressions a student of the medical academy Mumen Osman.
