KBSU implements a project in the field of maxillofacial surgery
Scientists of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov are developing methods of guided repair in children with congenital malformations of the maxillofacial region and the use of biocompatible polymer implants. The project «Methods of directed regulation of reparative processes», implemented within the framework of the state task of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation together with the North Caucasian Scientific and Practical Center of Maxillofacial, Plastic Surgery and Dentistry LLC (Nalchik), is aimed at developing and applying methods of reconstructive surgery for attitude towards children, taking into account genetic characteristics, response to trauma, closing the defect with a biocompatible polymer.
«Congenital malformations of the maxillofacial region is one of the most topical medical and social problems due to their high frequency of occurrence and severity of clinical manifestations. The primary task is the rational treatment and prevention of the development of purulent-inflammatory complications in this group of patients. In this regard, it is necessary to develop various methods of directed reparation for children with these problems, including immunocorrective measures, which are increasingly used in the complex of mandatory medical standards for the provision of medical care. Thus, in the system of treatment and rehabilitation of children with malformations of the MFA, early detection of concomitant pathology with the determination of the immunological status is important, which makes it possible to provide an integrated approach to restore the somatic, neurological and psychological status of young patients. Postoperative complications may arise due to the peculiarities of the mediator reaction of the body’s own tissues involved in healing. The implementation of our project will make it possible to eliminate defects using implants made from biocompatible polymers developed by scientists of the university and reduce the incidence of late postoperative complications,” — said the project leader, head of the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Zaira Kharaeva.
«The main goal of the team of university scientists, which includes surgeons, immunologists, chemists, biophysicists, biochemists and other specialists, is effective assistance and an individual approach to each small patient. As a result of the practical application of scientific developments, children get the opportunity to fully develop», — commented the acting rector of KBSU Yuri Altudov.
