KBSU hosted an exhibition of paintings by “Rain Man”
April 2, 2024 in the foyer of the main building of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov opened an exhibition of paintings “Rain Man”, timed to coincide with World Autism Awareness Day. 20 works by college of design student Amir Ivazov were presented to the audience.
Lyudmila Nastueva, head of the inclusive education department of the KBSU UPOM, noted that the exhibition will allow viewers to immerse themselves in the world of people with autism and get to know their characteristics better.
As the young artist’s mother, head of the Indigo correctional center Renata Sokhova, said, Amir has been drawing since childhood, prefers bright acrylic paints, tries to paint in oils, and is interested in the theme of the ocean and the underwater world. Amir also tries his hand at pottery.
“The Rain Man festival appeared 4 years ago, and then Amir’s first personal exhibition took place. The main idea of the project is to awaken the goodness in people. We must learn to understand these children, learn to live with them. My child made me a better person — now I help similar children and their mothers. I would like the Rain Man festival to expand its boundaries further,” says Renata Sokhova.
Visitors to the exhibition are teachers and students of the university. Psychologist, professor of the Department of Childhood Diseases, Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Medical Academy of the KBGOU Leila Temmoeva spoke about the positive effect of art therapy.
Director of the Institute of Law, Economics and Finance of KBSU, Elena Mashukova, emphasized that the university creates a barrier-free environment for all students, including those with health conditions.
“Since the UNESCO Chair was opened within KBSU, which is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, most events are focused on social support for students and, first of all, this concerns our special children. For the future, we note that the UNESCO Chair will provide any assistance to such events. I am sure that we will lay down a good tradition, and it will be repeated year after year,” said Elena Mashukova.
His classmates also came to support Amir Ivazov.
