KBSU hosted a conference for schoolchildren on Earth sciences
November 22, 2023 at Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov hosted a republican scientific and practical conference for schoolchildren and students “Earth Sciences”.
As noted by Marina Shamarina, deputy head of the museum of living nature of the Botanical Garden, the conference is aimed at developing the interest of schoolchildren and students in fundamental and applied sciences, in particular in biology, chemistry, geography, geology, environmental management, and ecology.
The conference was held in 3 stages: submission of applications; evaluation of the commission of scientific research works; protection of the best projects in a full-time format.
Opening the conference, Assistant Rector, Professor of the Department of Biology, Geoecology and Molecular Genetic Foundations of Living Systems of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Deputy. Chairman of the scientific and technical council of the university Sergei Shagin noted that the projects that reached the finals were very interesting and relevant.
Your works show a high level of knowledge, skills and abilities. I hope that in the future they will result in major scientific research. I wish you success in your studies and fruitful work in research activities,

The conference was held in 8 sections: “Biogeography of the native land”, “Geomorphology and hydrology of rivers”, “Problems and condition of soils in the ecosystem”, “Ecological state of the atmosphere as a global problem of humanity”, “Local history and history (ethnography, archeology, geography, ecology, tourism)», «Around the World», «Entertaining Chemistry», «Entertaining Physics».
All participants received diplomas of I, II, III degrees, and their scientific supervisors received letters of gratitude.
At the end of the conference, its participants were given a sightseeing tour of the scientific and educational center “Botanical Garden”, during which students, schoolchildren and teachers got acquainted with the exhibition of the geological department of the museum, including collections of rocks and minerals; paleontological; stone nodules; samples of rocks and minerals subjected to treatment by breaking waves; sinter formations. In addition, guests saw the stock collection of the zoological department, which includes extensive faunal collections. Along with rare and common species from the fauna of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, which dominate the collection, species from the entire Caucasus are presented here. The exhibition is structured according to a systematic principle. The collections of mammals are the most diverse in composition and numerous. The zoological collection has about 4,500 exhibits.
Note that the organizers of the conference are Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov, REC «Botanical Garden» together with the Institute of Ecology of Mountain Territories named after A.K. Tembotov Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
